Role Overview: As the Cooperative Extension Area Low Desert Weed Management Advisor, you will play a critical role in developing and delivering research-based weed management solutions tailored to the unique agricultural and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. Your work will support growers, land managers, and stakeholders in managing invasive and problematic weeds to enhance crop productivity and ecosystem health. What You'll Do: - You will conduct applied research on weed biology, ecology, and control methods specific to low desert environments. - You will develop and implement educational programs and workshops for growers, agricultural professionals, and community members. - You will collaborate with local, regional, and state agencies to coordinate weed management strategies and policies. - You will provide expert consultation and technical assistance to farmers and land managers. - You will publish research findings and extension materials to disseminate knowledge effectively. - You will engage with diverse audiences to promote sustainable weed management practices. - You will secure funding through grant writing and partnerships to support research and outreach activities. - You will monitor and evaluate program impacts to continuously improve extension services. What You Bring: - A Ph.D. in Weed Science, Agronomy, Plant Biology, or a closely related field. - At least 3 years of experience in applied weed management research and extension. - Strong knowledge of weed ecology, integrated pest management, and herbicide application. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders. - Proven ability to develop and deliver educational programs and materials. - Experience in grant writing and securing research funding. Bonus Points If You Have: - Familiarity with the agricultural systems and environmental conditions of Imperial and Riverside Counties. - Experience working with diverse agricultural communities and stakeholders. - Proficiency in Spanish to communicate effectively with local growers and community members. - A track record of collaborative research and multi-agency partnerships.
