The Department of Industrial Relations is seeking to hire two student assistants. Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager II, the Personnel, Strategic Planning and Risk Analyst monitors and consults with department subject experts and program leaders to coordinate the department’s various requests in order to improve enterprise risk management (ERM) and business processes in alignment with the strategic direction of the Labor Commissioner's Office (LCO) and the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). The student assistants will conduct detailed research, analysis, and documentation of business processes, support ERM initiatives, strategic planning and assist in organizational change management efforts. This position may be filled at our Sacramento, Oakland, or Los Angeles locations. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer). Compensation $18.27 - $33.52 per hour New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Minimum Qualifications • Basic verbal and written communication skills. • Basic skills of Microsoft Office application including Word, Excel, PowerPoint. • Demonstrate effective time management and punctuality. Follow direction when given general supervision. Duties and Responsibilities • Collaborates with internal staff and departmental units to ensure organizational compliance, operational efficiency, and effective risk management practices. • Maintain risk assessment tools, such as risk matrices, heat maps, and dashboards. • Analyzes internal and external reports, including legislative reports and media reports to ensure there is consistency and alignment. • Gathers, compiles and reviews pertinent information to provide department leadership. • Prepares meeting materials and records detailed notes to capture key findings and decisions. • Collaborate with team members to gather and interpret technical research and statistical data. • Drafts comprehensive reports based on information gathered. • Managing contract activities. • Gathers and analyzes information and/or completes reports as requested by DIR and/or LCO leadership, including but not limited to language surveys and record retention schedules. • Coordinates and/or conducts annual inventories, including public forms and internal forms.Providing general analytical support to LCO programs as it relates to the facilities and procurement related needs of the division statewide. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
