Full Description

Senior Full-Stack Engineer — Firebase / Next.js Healthcare SaaS Job type: Contract, with potential for a long-term or full-time role Location: Remote Compensation: $40-$90 per hour RehabAlpha is building a modern EMR for physical, occupational, and speech therapy providers serving skilled nursing and senior-living facilities. We have customers preparing to use the platform and are looking for an exceptional full-stack engineer to help us improve, scale, and launch the product. This is an opportunity to work directly with the founders, have a meaningful impact, and help shape a real healthcare product at an early stage. Our application is built primarily with TypeScript, Next.js, Firebase, and Google Cloud. What You’ll Work On Depending on your experience, projects may include: • Building and improving features across our Next.js application • Designing secure, scalable Firebase and Firestore architecture • Improving database performance, reporting, and analytics • Building integrations with healthcare systems and third-party APIs • Strengthening authentication, authorization, and user permissions • Maintaining HIPAA-appropriate security and data-handling practices • Improving testing, staging, deployment, and feature-release workflows • Developing tools for importing and validating customer data • Diagnosing technical problems and improving application reliability • Working directly with the founders to turn product requirements into thoughtful, maintainable software What We’re Looking For • Strong written and spoken English • Excellent TypeScript and full-stack web development skills • Meaningful production experience with Firebase and Firestore • Experience building applications with Next.js and React • Strong understanding of database design, APIs, authentication, and permissions • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly • Good product judgment and attention to detail • A practical, positive, and collaborative attitude • Publicly reviewable work demonstrating that you can build high-quality software Healthcare experience is ideal. However, we care more about technical ability, ownership, judgment, and the quality of your previous work. Strong Candidates Will Ideally Have • An active GitHub profile with meaningful recent contributions • Several public TypeScript repositories • A public project, open-source contribution, personal website, or technical blog • Experience with Google Cloud, BigQuery, MongoDB, or similar technologies • Experience building SaaS products with complex permissions and workflows • Experience with HIPAA-regulated or security-sensitive applications • Experience with Stripe or healthcare integrations • Evidence of long-term ownership of real production software We understand that excellent engineers may have substantial experience in private repositories. If that applies to you, please provide other specific examples that demonstrate the quality and complexity of your work. What Success Looks Like You will be successful in this role if you: • Ship reliable, maintainable features • Understand the reason behind a requirement instead of simply completing a ticket • Raise concerns early and propose sensible solutions • Communicate progress and blockers clearly • Balance speed with security and long-term maintainability • Take ownership without requiring constant oversight How to Apply Please include: • A short introduction explaining why you are interested in RehabAlpha • Links to your GitHub, personal website, technical blog, Stack Overflow profile, or other publicly reviewable work • The project you are most proud of and your specific contribution to it • A brief description of your experience with Firebase, Firestore, Next.js, and TypeScript • Your availability, location, and desired hourly rate or salary • The word “Alpha” at the beginning of your application so we know you read the full post Generic or AI-generated applications that do not address these questions will not be considered. We are looking for someone thoughtful—show us how you think and what makes your work stand out. Pay: $40.00 - $90.00 per hour Application Question(s): • Share links to your GitHub and any other publicly reviewable work, such as apps, websites, technical writing, open-source contributions, competitions, games, or tutorials. If most of your work is private, briefly explain what you have built. • Show us the most impressive thing you have built or accomplished. What was difficult about it, what did you personally contribute, and what was the outcome? • Describe the most technically challenging production feature you have personally built using TypeScript, Next.js, Firebase, or a comparable stack. What decisions did you make, and what would you do differently today? • Have you worked on a production EMR/EHR or another HIPAA-regulated healthcare platform? Describe the product, your responsibilities, and the specific features or integrations you personally built. Work Location: Remote
