Maintain a safe therapeutic environment for psychiatric patients using de-escalation and safety protocols, supporting inpatient units primarily for adolescents.
High school diploma, crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation training, BLS certification, and minimum two years experience in psychiatric inpatient or related education/training.
Responsibilities Milieu Specialist - Full Time Occasional weekend days required. The Brook – KMI is a 98-bed hospital offering a full continuum of inpatient, extended care, residential, partial hospitalization and outpatient services for adolescents, adults and seniors. Our specialized treatment services are provided by a multidisciplinary team of highly trained psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction counselors, nurses, pastoral counselors and activity therapists. Job Duties include: Consistently utilizes universal precautions and environmental safety guidelines to maintain an environment conducive to safety and that promotes health and reinforces the safety and dignity of the patient as well as the safety of all staff, and visitors. Promotes therapeutic environment for patients by following program schedule, rules, and guidelines with minimal supervision Actively utilizes and role models verbal de-escalation techniques to support facility goal of elimination of restraint/seclusion and only employs Non Violent physical intervention techniques are utilized on patients exhibiting violent/ inappropriate behaviors as a last resort. Actively participates in all Code Debriefs, serving as a subject matter expert and follows up with MHTs requiring additional support/training. Floats to all units as needed but may primarily support Adolescent Services. Qualifications Job Qualifications: Education High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associates Degree preferred. Certifications/Licensure Crisis intervention and Verbal De-Escalation training is required and is offered upon hire. BLS is required and offered upon hire. Experience Minimum of two years of experience in a Pyschiatric Inpatient setting providing training, or any combination of education, training, or experience in an inpatient hospital.
