If providing hope and healing through compassionate, innovative, and individualized care interests you, we welcome your application for the position below.   Reimbursement Officer II performs routine (moderately complex) billing work and assistance to facilitate central billing & produce Self-Pay/Co-Pay/Co-Insurance and Deductible Billings, as well as posting payments on collections. Assists with determining eligibility and insurance coverage of patients. Reimbursement Officer II will work closely with Central Billing, eBilling, leadership, local business office, Utilization Management, patients and family to gather necessary information. Will perform data entry/revision and updates to computer databases/systems/software. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Essential Job Functions (EJFs): Attends work on a regular basis and may be asked to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Utilize systems/software and/or state databases daily to confirm insurance coverage and eligibility. The Reimbursement Officer will utilize systems such as, but not limited to: Electronic Health Record Application, Local and Federal Government systems, as well as other third-party insurance verification systems and websites to determine eligibility and insurance coverage of patients. Responsible for keeping copies of any verifications completed and retained within the patient record.   Independently determines a patient’s billable rate based on a patient’s financial information and the sliding scale promulgated in HHSC rule the government benefit or commercial insurance co-pay, co-insurance or deductible levels. Works closely with local business office, Utilization Management, patient and family to gather necessary information. Confirms interview information provided from Reimbursement Officer I regarding financial and ability to pay for the patient.   Perform data entry/revision and updates to computer databases/systems/software. Enter gathered information compiled from insurance verification into the Electronic Health Record to ensure appropriate client ledger charge allocation and guarantor setup. Applicable rates will be set and updated into the Electronic Health Record.    Create resulting bills for services while following procedures for creation of billing and complete standardized billing template. Bills will be created for self-pay/Co-Pay/Co-Insurance and Deductible Billings. Reimbursement Officer will reconcile patient ledger to bill generated to ensure accurate records. Will work closely with Central Billing, eBilling, and leadership to accurately produce monthly bills.   Post collections into the patient's record in the health record system. Responsible for the accurate tracking, review and posting of payments to a patient’s ledger inside the Electronic Health Record. Coordinating with the cashier at the local business office to ensure balanced postings of revenue to patient account against receipt records and to ensure accurate receipt type and posting code are utilized.   Generate self-pay statements for accounts with balances to be delivered to patients. Confirm patient ledger accounts balance is accurate and charges are posted appropriately. Generate monthly statements for self-pay guarantor and ensure accurate data from Electronic Health Record (Patient demographics, charges, amount, address, etc.) before remitting. Responsible for retaining copies sent out each month within the hard copy patient record.   Performs other duties as assigned. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):   Knowledge of health-care billing as it relates to psychiatric services and revenue management   Skilled in the use of typical office equipment and systems, including but not limited to computer, databases, webpages, telephone, multi-function copier and Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel   Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally to internal and external parties   Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications:   None   Initial Screening Criteria:   Minimum of One (1) year of experience working in billing/reimbursement office for a direct care provider. Experience in billing for inpatient psychiatric services is preferred.   Experience with local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to a public entity is preferred.   Additional Information:   Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aid, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct, List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.   All applicants must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at a state-operated facility. All these diseases are vaccine preventable. As a result, state hospital policy requires employees be vaccinated according to their level of contact with individuals.
