Lead a multidisciplinary engineering and maintenance team to improve operational standards and safety compliance in a chemical manufacturing facility.
15+ years in chemical or mechanical engineering with leadership experience in process safety management and industrial operations.
We are seeking a high-impact Engineering And Maintenance Manager to lead a comprehensive operational turnaround at a continuous-process chemical manufacturing facility in Louisiana. (Relocation is provided) This role is designed for a leader who excels at building organizational capability from the ground up rather than simply maintaining existing systems. The facility is currently elevating its operational standards, transitioning toward a more rigorous Process Safety Management (PSM) framework and modernizing its digital infrastructure. We need a seasoned veteran who can serve as a catalyst for growth—someone who can bridge the gap between sophisticated capital execution, day-to-day mechanical reliability, and the professional development of a motivated but junior engineering staff. Core Responsibilities • Departmental Oversight: Directly lead a multi-disciplinary team of ~8 professionals across Plant Engineering, Capital Projects, and Maintenance. • Safety & Compliance Strategy: Direct the site’s evolution from an RMP-regulated environment into a full PSM framework. You will be the technical authority on HazOps, Management of Change (MOC), mechanical integrity, and PSSRs. • Organizational Mentorship: Establish formal technical training and career development programs. You will be responsible for maturing the skill sets of the site's engineering and technical personnel. • Capital & Reliability Management: Drive sound project management discipline from scoping through closeout, while implementing modern reliability principles to improve uptime and equipment health. • Operational Excellence: Partner with site leadership to instill a culture of accountability, data-driven decision-making, and proactive problem-solving. Experience & Requirements • Professional Background: 15+ years of experience in continuous process chemical manufacturing, refining, or heavy petrochemical environments. • Regulatory Expertise: Extensive, hands-on experience navigating PSM/RMP environments. You should have a track record of implementing or significantly maturing these programs. • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering is required. • People Leadership: Proven ability to manage, coach, and hold technical teams accountable in a fast-paced industrial setting. • Regional Context: Deep familiarity with the Gulf South industrial corridor. This is an on-site leadership position. The Ideal Profile • You are a "builder" by nature, energized by the challenge of fixing broken processes and establishing new standards. • You possess a reliability-centered mindset and view maintenance as a strategic asset, not a reactive cost center. • You are a collaborative leader who uses data and technical rigor to influence outcomes, rather than relying on hierarchy. • You have experience navigating large-scale transitions, such as ERP implementations (SAP) or major departmental restructures. Qualifications Not Suited for This Role • Experience limited to downstream product applications, formulations, polymers, or coatings. We require upstream process manufacturing expertise. • Candidates without substantial experience managing professional-level engineering teams. The Value Proposition This is a rare opportunity to define the technical legacy of a site undergoing a multi-million dollar transformation. If you are a high-level engineer who wants to transition from "running a system" to "building a culture," this is the role for you.
