Own and enhance backend automation systems, enable growth experiments, and ensure reliable data flow across platforms.
Over 3 years of experience with backend systems, APIs, webhooks, integrations, and supporting growth and analytics initiatives.
Full-Stack EngineerAbout Medical Connect Medical Connect helps the 100M Americans who don’t have access to a primary care doctor get the care they need to focus on their health and protect their jobs. We do this by making critical health services convenient, affordable, and reliable. The Role This is a backend systems, automation, and growth enablement role — not a frontend or product UI role. You will own and evolve an event-driven automation layer that connects intake flows, payments, clinical operations, documentation, and lifecycle marketing. The work is less about building greenfield applications and more about making existing systems work together correctly under real-world messiness. In addition to backend ownership, a core responsibility of this role is direct growth enablement. You will work hands-on with marketing and growth teams to implement experiments, tracking, and funnel instrumentation. This includes setting up A/B tests, implementing landing page and quiz experiments, instrumenting upsells and cross-sells, and ensuring performance data flows cleanly into analytics and ad platforms. A core responsibility of this role exists is to ensure growth teams can test, learn, and iterate quickly, with data they trust, without engineering becoming a bottleneck. When things break, money and trust are on the line. This role operates close to revenue, operations, and experimentation. If you enjoy turning fragile, human-coordinated workflows into deterministic, auditable, self-healing systems, and enabling growth teams to move faster without breaking those systems, this role is likely a strong fit. What You’ll Work On Backend Systems & Automation • Designing and extending state machines that manage complex, multi-step workflows • Building and hardening event- and webhook-driven pipelines • retries, idempotency, deduplication, failure handling • Owning integrations across: • Stripe (payments & state) • Healthie (EHR / clinical ops) • Heyflow (intake & quizzes) • Webflow (site) • Klaviyo (lifecycle & growth) • Analytics and ads platforms • Reducing manual operational work through automation • Improving observability, traceability, and debuggability as volume grows Growth Enablement & Experimentation • Enabling Growth Tests • Implementing A/B tests and experiments, including: • landing page tests (Webflow / frontend wiring) • intake and quiz design tests (Heyflow) • upsell and cross-sell experiments • Ensuring experiment assignment, persistence, and routing are correct • Instrumenting experiments so results are statistically valid and interpretable • Preventing growth tests from breaking billing, ops, or downstream workflows • Tracking, Analytics & Insight • Ensuring the right events and attributes are sent to: • Google Ads • Meta • GA / GTM • Debugging discrepancies between ad platforms, analytics tools, and backend source-of-truth systems • Building and maintaining dashboards that allow growth teams to: • analyze funnel performance • understand drop-offs • evaluate experiment impact • Making analytics explainable and trustworthy, not just “wired up” • Funnel & Lifecycle Data Integration • Ensuring data flows cleanly across the stack (payments, intake, ops, marketing) • Designing and maintaining event schemas that power: • lifecycle messaging • abandoned cart flows • follow-up and escalation campaigns • Enabling marketing teams to build strong lifecycle and retention flows without fragile or manual workarounds • Ensuring lifecycle systems remain correct in edge cases (refunds, retries, partial failures) Integrations & Automation • Building and maintaining integrations across tools like Stripe, Klaviyo, analytics platforms, and internal systems • Designing reliable data pipelines between platforms • Automating workflows to increase team efficiency and reduce manual intervention • Troubleshooting and hardening integrations as complexity increases AI-Assisted Automation • Applying LLMs to automate judgment-heavy or repetitive operational workflows • Integrating AI into existing systems with appropriate guardrails and monitoring • Improving throughput and reducing manual ops without sacrificing correctness Quality & Reliability • Helping define and enforce QA strategies for systems and experiments • Establishing testing and validation standards for production changes • Creating documentation that meaningfully improves velocity and reliability This Role Is For You If Soft Skills / Values / Expectations • Are ambitious and want to maximize your impact, not just complete assigned work • Take full ownership of outcomes and drive your own accountability • Proactively identify problems, unblock yourself, and communicate early when something is unclear • Operate like a driver, not a passenger, you don’t wait for perfect specs or permission • Move quickly, see around corners, and push things forward without needing constant direction. • Thrive in ambiguous environments and can unblock yourself • Are pragmatic about tools (including AI) and use them only where they add real leverage and are ROI positive • You have high engineering standards, but you don’t let perfection block progress. You’re comfortable building systems iteratively, making pragmatic tradeoffs, and hardening them as the business scales. Experience • Have worked at startups and love being on smaller teams • Have owned revenue-critical automations end-to-end • Are comfortable living in webhooks, retries, edge cases, and partial failures • Have partnered directly with growth or marketing teams to ship experiments • Understand funnels and lifecycle systems, not just backend services This Role Is Not for You If • You expect this to be a strict 9–5 role with tight boundaries around time and responsibility • You’re looking for clear task lists handed to you rather than problems to own • You prefer waiting for direction instead of proactively driving work forward • You’re uncomfortable operating with urgency, ambiguity, and real accountability • You’re satisfied optimizing for comfort rather than impact and growth • You make perfect the enemy of good, and are not okay with building the plane as you fly it • Want to focus on frontend or product UI work • Prefer greenfield platform builds over stabilizing real systems • Come primarily from large enterprise environments with slow feedback loops We’re looking for someone who wants to be meaningfully involved in building and scaling something important, and is willing to put in the extra effort when it matters. This role is designed for someone who wants responsibility, speed, and impact, not predictability and strict boundaries. Our Tech Stack • Automation & Integration: n8n, Make • Web & Frontend: Webflow, Heyflow, Node.js, Next.js • Marketing & Analytics: Klaviyo, Google Tag Manager (GTM), Google Analytics (GA), Google Ads (GAds) • Databases & Backend: Airtable, Postgres • Payments & Docs: Stripe, PandaDoc • Healthcare & Operations: Healthie • Infrastructure & DevOps: AWS, EC2, Docker, RTS What You’ll Bring • 3+ years of experience building production software in an early-stage or fast-moving environment • Experience with backend systems, APIs, webhooks, and integrations • Comfort working with event-driven or workflow-heavy systems • Experience supporting experimentation with reliable tracking and analytics • Strong written and verbal English communication • High attention to detail, ownership, and judgment • Experience with growth tooling (analytics, attribution, lifecycle messaging) • Experience with data pipelines or warehousing • Experience applying LLMs in production systems • Familiarity with tools like Stripe, Klaviyo, Airtable, or similar Role Details and Requirements • Full time role • Overlap with EST working hours • Proficient with written and verbal English • Remote role Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year Application Question(s): • Have you worked in a company of less than 20 employees? Work Location: Remote
