Support and troubleshoot HVAC zoning systems and electronic control products, including diagnostics, testing, and customer support.
Experience in HVAC controls, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, and familiarity with HVAC control platforms.
Position Overview: We are seeking a technically skilled Technical Support Technician to support contractors, distributors, and field technicians using ZoneFirst and Zonex products. This role is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving real-world HVAC zoning system issues, as well as all product returns, testing, and return approvals. This is not a sales role — it is a hands-on technical problem-solving position focused on making systems work in the field. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Technical Troubleshooting & Field Support • Provide phone and email support for: • Zone panels • Thermostats • Dampers • Sensors • Fresh air and bypass systems • Diagnose issues related to: • Wiring • Power • Communications • Airflow and damper behavior • Control logic • Help contractors: • Bring new systems online • Debug installations • Resolve faults and errors • Translate field problems into clear technical solutions 2. Product & System Expertise • Maintain deep knowledge of: • ZoneFirst and Zonex control platforms • Residential and commercial zoning systems • RTU, split system, and VRF/VAV integrations • Understand how: • Thermostats, dampers, and controllers interact • Bypass and airflow control affect system stability 3. Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) & Testing • Process all product returns • Inspect and test returned: • Panels • Thermostats • Dampers • Sensors • Determine: • Warranty status • Root cause of failure • Whether the product is repairable, replaceable, or non-warrantable • Document findings and close out RMAs 4. Failure Analysis & Feedback • Identify patterns in failures or field problems • Provide feedback to: • Engineering • Production • Quality • Help improve: • Product reliability • Installation clarity • System robustness 5. Cross-Team Support • Work closely with: • Sales • Quoting • Engineering • Production • Assist the quoting team during downtime by: • Helping with takeoffs • Building quotes • Reviewing system configurations (This ensures workload balance without distracting from primary support duties.) Required Skills and Qualifications: • Strong understanding of: • HVAC zoning systems • Thermostats, dampers, and control panels • Low-voltage wiring and HVAC controls • Experience in: • HVAC service • Technical support • Controls troubleshooting • Or building automation • Comfortable diagnosing: • Electrical • Mechanical • Software-driven control issues Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with: • ZoneFirst, Zonex, or similar zoning platforms • RTU, split system, and VRF applications • Field commissioning or startup support • Experience testing or repairing: • Electronic control products • HVAC actuators and sensors Why This Role Matters This position is the last line of defense between a bad installation and a successful one.
