Full Description

Build a Safer World. TRM Labs provides blockchain analytics and AI solutions to help law enforcement and national security agencies, financial institutions, and cryptocurrency businesses detect, investigate, and disrupt crypto-related fraud and financial crime. TRM’s blockchain intelligence and AI platforms include solutions to trace the source and destination of funds, identify illicit activity, build cases, and construct an operating picture of threats. TRM is trusted by leading agencies and businesses worldwide who rely on TRM to enable a safer, more secure world for all. TRM Labs is building the world's most advanced blockchain intelligence platform — and our Public Sector Data Science team is at the front lines of that mission, delivering the intelligence capabilities that law enforcement, regulators, and national security agencies use to fight cryptocurrency-enabled crime. We're looking for a Data Science Manager to lead this sub-team: a player-coach who can own the technical roadmap, grow a high-performing team of data scientists, and ship the attribution models, intelligence leads, and investigative proof points that our public sector customers depend on. This is a rare opportunity to build at the intersection of cutting-edge data science and real-world national security impact. The impact you will have: Lead the design and delivery of blockchain attribution models, intelligence leads, and investigative proof points for US Government and law enforcement customers — using AI tools to accelerate hypothesis generation, model iteration, and signal validation across TRM's data moat Own the technical roadmap for the BLOCKINT Public Sector data science sub-team, partnering with product, engineering, and public sector account teams to translate federal intelligence requirements into data science workstreams Use AI coding assistants and LLMs (Claude, Codex, Copilot) to challenge assumptions in existing heuristics and rapidly prototype new intelligence approaches — setting the standard for AI-native research on the team Build and develop a high-performing team of data scientists: hire top talent, create structured growth plans, deliver direct and honest feedback, and manage underperformance without delay Collaborate cross-functionally with TRM's threat intelligence, primary intel, and GTM teams to ensure BLOCKINT PS outputs are operationally relevant and customer-ready Drive measurable increases in velocity of intelligence output — expanding the breadth and depth of TRM's public sector data moat quarter over quarter What we're looking for: 4+ years of experience managing data science or ML teams with direct people management responsibility (hiring, developing, managing performance) A proven player-coach: you stay close to the technical work — reviewing models, debugging pipelines, challenging assumptions in code reviews — while also setting team strategy and representing the team in cross-functional forums Strong Python and SQL proficiency; experience with production data science environments (BigQuery, Airflow, Kafka, git) and ability to work hands-on when needed Active daily user of AI tools (LLMs, coding assistants) to accelerate research, validate hypotheses, and drive your own leverage — you use AI to challenge every assumption, not just to write boilerplate Experience working with or in government, law enforcement, financial intelligence, or national security contexts — you understand the sensitivity, rigor, and mission-alignment required in this space First-principles problem solver who approaches novel blockchain intelligence challenges by decomposing from the data up, not by applying prior-company playbooks About the Team: The BLOCKINT Data Science team operates at the bleeding edge of blockchain analytics — combining data science, intelligence methodology, and applied ML to build capabilities used by federal agencies, law enforcement, and regulators worldwide The team is high-trust, technically rigorous, and AI-native: we expect 90%+ of workflows to incorporate AI tooling, and we use AI to challenge every assumption — not just to move faster Culture is direct and ownership-heavy: you are expected to operate with high autonomy, surface problems early, and iterate fast — V1 shipped and improved beats perfect held back Team Operating Rhythms: Distributed, not distant: the team is primarily US-based and operates across EST/PST timezones; at least 6 hours of daily overlap with US Eastern time is expected Async-first communication via Slack for day-to-day coordination; Notion and Jira for project tracking and documentation Regular cross-functional syncs with public sector GTM, threat intelligence, and product teams to align on intelligence requirements and delivery timelines Life at TRM We are building a safer world. That promise shows up in how we work every day. TRM moves quickly. We are a high velocity, high ownership team that expects clarity, follow-through, and impact. People who thrive here are energized by hard problems, experimentation, and continuous feedback. If something takes months elsewhere, it will ship here in days. Our work sits at the intersection of AI, national security, and fighting financial crime. The problems are complex, the stakes are real, and the environment evolves quickly. The pace and intensity of the work reflect the importance of the mission. As a result, the way we operate requires a high level of ownership, adaptability, collaboration, and creative problem-solving. At TRM, you should expect: Priorities and targets to change quickly as we experiment and iterate Work that often requires operating with a high degree of ambiguity A high level of personal ownership and accountability Close collaboration across teams and functions Frequent, high-touch communication Creative problem solving and out-of-the-box thinking A pace that rewards urgency, adaptability, and outcomes This environment is energizing for people who enjoy building, solving hard problems, and making progress in situations that are not always fully defined. It also requires comfort navigating ambiguity, adjusting course as new information emerges, and maintaining focus and positivity in a fast-moving and intense environment. We also recognize that this style of operating is not for everyone. If you are primarily optimizing for predictability or a consistently balanced workload, we encourage you to use the interview process to pressure test whether this environment is truly the right fit. We want teammates who thrive here, not just survive here. At the same time, many people find this work deeply rewarding. If you are excited by meaningful problems, motivated by ambitious goals, and energized by working alongside mission-driven colleagues, there is a good chance you will find TRM to be an exceptional place to grow and contribute.
