Founded over 40 years ago by the senior residents of Mercy Retirement & Care Center in Oakland, we’ve been serving older adults across Alameda County ever since with fresh, healthy groceries. The need has grown as the senior population has boomed, and inflation escalated, so in 2025 we are now serving over 10,000 (very) low-income seniors - twice a month. Headquartered in Oakland, we’re a small but mighty team, powered by 500+ volunteers who are dedicated to improving lives. Our Operations Manager: Provides high-quality, professional, and compassionate service to participants, volunteers, partner representatives, and staff. Engage in ongoing dialogue at distribution sites and provide referrals to additional services when appropriate. Builds and maintains relationships with Partner Agencies, including: Visiting distribution sites Creating, troubleshooting, and supporting new sites Coordinating volunteer needs with the Volunteer Coordinator Providing training and ensuring regulatory compliance Monitoring and evaluating site effectiveness to support growth Collaborates closely with the Internal Operations Manager to manage schedules, distribution partners, staff, and program needs. Manages the Link2Feed database, including data entry, reporting, annual re-registration, volunteer training, troubleshooting, maintaining related equipment, and compiling required program documentation. Trains staff and volunteers; ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and maintain appropriate compliance records. Oversees Emergency Backup Processes and Procedures and serve as one of the two primary contributors to the Brown Bag Operations Manual. Trains and supervises Volunteer Coordinators. Oversees the Home Delivery component of the program, coordinating with volunteers and drivers to ensure timely distribution. Possesses a deep passion for the mission of Mercy Brown Bag, dedicated to providing fresh, healthy groceries to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Promotes the Mission, Vision and Values of Transforming Age in all areas of responsibility, and demonstrate commitment to Culture of Excellence and strategic goals. Performs other duties as assigned. What you need to succeed: High School Diploma or equivalent. (Bachelor's degree preferred). Must have familiarity and understanding of proper food handling and storage protocols. At 5 years of experience in one of these areasExperience in Food Safety, Food Management, Traffic Management, or Operations process, or a related field within the non-profit sector. Demonstrated success in overseeing nonprofit and volunteer initiatives, showcasing strong leadership and organizational abilities. Comprehends all safety protocols and advocates for a secure environment. Current First Aid Training and Certification. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders (clients, coordinators, vendors, etc.) in a multi-cultural environment. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with a strong capacity for teamwork and collaboration as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated leadership with the initiative, drive, and creativity to successfully develop, implement, and improve programs.
