About The Role We’re seeking a Payroll & HR Specialist to join our HR team and play a critical role in supporting the employee experience at Traliant. This position blends payroll ownership with HR generalist responsibilities, providing hands-on support across the full HR lifecycle. You’ll manage accurate and timely payroll processing, oversee HRIS data integrity and reporting, and contribute to HR programs that enhance engagement, compliance, and organizational growth. This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about helping employees succeed. You’ll work closely with a small, collaborative HR team and have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a fast-paced, remote-first environment. Key Responsibilities Payroll • Manage end-to-end payroll for a multi-state U.S. and Canadian remote workforce on a bi-weekly cycle (including new hires, terminations, promotions, and compensation changes). • Review and validate timesheets, ensuring accurate calculation of wages, deductions, bonuses, and overtime. • Conduct regular audits of timekeeping and payroll data to verify compliance with FLSA wage and hour requirements • Collaborate with Finance to validate and resolve any discrepancies • Set up, maintain, and reconcile payroll tax accounts; ensuring timely filing of quarterly and annual payroll tax reports (W-2s, 1099s, etc.) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. • Maintain accurate payroll records, proactively monitoring for compliance and accuracy. • Manage the company's worker's compensation policy, including maintaining census data with The Hartford, ensuring timely payments, and overseeing compliance across all states (including monopolistic states. HR Generalist & Systems Support • Serve as administrator for HRIS and other HR technology platforms; ensure data accuracy, manage reporting, and drive system enhancements. • Maintain the company’s virtual stable mailbox, ensuring timely handling of all incoming items including state wage reports, unemployment claims, tax compliance notices, and other official correspondence. • Support HR programs, including onboarding, completing i-9s, offboarding, benefits administration, compliance training, and employee engagement initiatives. • Act as a resource for employee questions related to payroll, benefits, policies, and HR systems. • Assist with internal and external audits by providing timely and accurate HR/payroll documentation. • Contribute to HR projects focused on process improvement, compliance, analytics, and overall employee experience and engagement. • Adapt to evolving needs of a growing HR team, taking on projects outside the traditional payroll scope when needed. Requirements Qualifications • 3+ years of combined payroll and HR generalist experience, preferably in a multi-state or remote environment. • Experience with Canada payroll, a plus • Strong knowledge of payroll processing, tax regulations, and employment laws. • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms (Paylocity, strongly preferred). • Solid background in HR functions such as onboarding, benefits, compliance, and employee relations. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis). • Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement mindset. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service orientation. • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage multiple priorities independently.
