About the RoleWe're looking for an experienced electrical engineer to design commercial and industrial battery storage systems. As an Energy Storage Design Engineer (C&I), you'll visit customer sites, assess their electrical infrastructure, and create preliminary system designs that are ready for permitting and installation. This role focuses on medium-voltage applications and requires translating complex technical solutions into clear value propositions for business customers. Key Responsibilities • Conduct comprehensive site assessments specializing in commercial, industrial and utility customers to gather essential data for project planning. • Develop preliminary system designs to facilitate early-stage project discussions. • Act as the primary point of contact with our customers during the design and installation process, maintaining regular communication to keep them informed. • Translate complex technical systems and industrial-grade processes into clear, accessible concepts and language for non-technical decision makers in business and industrial settings. • Analyze energy usage and operational performance data to inform design decisions and optimize system performance. • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless transition from design to implementation. • Validate that systems are installed according to plan and meet customer expectations, which may involve travel to customer locations. • This is a hybrid position with approximately 75% of work performed from your home office and 25% travel for site visits and project evaluations. Travel is primarily day trips within Utah, with occasional overnight stays in-state or out-of-state as projects require. Required Experience • Typically requires a degree in a related technical field like Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy, but we value diverse learning paths and welcome candidates who demonstrate relevant experience – such as Journeyman Lineman or Electrician. • 3-5+ years of experience conducting system design and site evaluations for commercial, industrial, and renewable energy projects, with a focus on optimizing performance, cost-efficiency, and regulatory compliance. • Experience with medium voltage electrical systems and power distribution. (~4-12.5 kV) • Strong familiarity with applicable codes and standards governing renewable energy systems and storage installations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other relevant local and national regulations. • Solid understanding of renewable energy technologies, including battery storage solutions, grid-tied systems, and emerging trends shaping the commercial and industrial energy landscape. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders at all levels. • Highly developed problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail, ensuring quality and consistency throughout all project phases. • Valid driver's license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle. Location + Travel The role is on-location based with some remote work. You will conduct your work both at installation locations throughout Utah, the United States and remotely from your home office. Work Authorization Applicants must already have the legal authorization to work in the US without requiring any employer sponsorship Physical Requirements • Must have the ability to safely lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. • Prolonged periods of standing, bending and kneeling could at times be required. • Capable of safely climbing a ladder to get on/in attic and roofs. • Ability to read, identify, observe and recognize details, color-coding and fine print at close range on associated engineering drawings. • Ability to don personal protective equipment to include, but not limited to, respiratory protective equipment with proper seal, coveralls, ear protection, gloves, eye protection & safety helmet. • Ability to communicate information so others can understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. • Must report to work reliably and with the ability to use full and unimpaired skills and judgment to safely execute your job. • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English required.
