Full Description

Job Overview The HVAC Quality Engineer is a critical technical role responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing quality assurance and control processes for all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, installations, and service protocols. This position requires a strong engineering background and an in-depth technical understanding of HVAC systems and components to ensure all work meets stringent quality, performance, and safety standards, as well as relevant industry and regulatory codes (e.g., ASHRAE, local building codes). The shift is structured to support evening operations and review daily project outputs from field teams. Position Summary The Quality Engineer will move beyond procurement and scheduling to focus entirely on technical compliance, validation, and continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include analyzing non-conformance issues, performing root cause analysis (RCA), managing corrective and preventative actions (CAPA), and auditing installation and repair work for adherence to specifications and quality manuals. Job Responsibilities Quality Assurance & Control: Develop, document, and maintain Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) standards for all HVAC service, repair, and installation activities. Auditing & Inspection: Conduct technical reviews and audits of completed work orders, parts specifications, and installation documentation to ensure absolute compliance with engineering drawings, manufacturer instructions, and industry codes. Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Investigate quality failures, recurring issues, and customer complaints related to system performance or installation errors to determine the fundamental root cause. Corrective & Preventative Action (CAPA): Develop and manage a system for corrective actions to resolve quality issues and implement preventative measures to stop recurrence. Technical Documentation: Maintain detailed quality records, generate non-conformance reports (NCRs), and ensure all quality manuals and engineering specifications are current and accessible. Technical Support: Provide expert technical guidance and feedback to field technicians and operations management regarding complex procedures, adherence to quality checkpoints, and code compliance. Job Requirements & Desired Qualifications Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum of 3+ years of experience in Quality Assurance/Control, Field Engineering, or a similar technical role within the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or construction trades. Demonstrated technical understanding of HVAC system design, operational principles, components (e.g., control systems, heat transfer, refrigeration circuits), and relevant diagnostic tools. Skills and Competencies Strong Analytical Skills: Proficient in using data-driven methods (e.g., 5 Whys, Ishikawa Diagram) for failure analysis and problem-solving. Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail in documentation, auditing, and enforcing technical specifications. Communication: Clear, confident, and professional technical communicator, capable of conveying complex non-compliance issues and corrective steps to technical staff and management. Code Knowledge: Familiarity with major industry standards and codes (e.g., ASHRAE, ACCA, and local building codes). Software Proficiency: Experience using quality management software, technical analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. Success Factors Problem Solver: A quick thinker who can efficiently analyze technical failures and develop practical, long-term solutions. Reliable and Consistent: Able to maintain strict adherence to quality procedures during the evening shift hours. Process-Driven: Passionate about refining and improving technical processes to ensure superior workmanship and customer satisfaction.
