Description Location: Elston Administration Center, 20 Elston Road Lafayette, IN 47909 Position Purpose: Under the supervision of the Directors of Special Education, to organize and collaborate with Special Education staff and students across the district. Requirements Essential Functions: In collaboration with the Directors of Special Education, the duties/responsibilities of the Special Education Coordinator include but are not limited to: • Organizing and supporting the self-contained Special Education programs. • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support students with academic, social, and behavioral needs. • Providing instructional support for Special Education teachers across the district. • Communicating with parents/guardians of students with disabilities. • Assisting with Professional Development opportunities for classified and certified staff. • Maintaining consistent presence in resource rooms and self-contained programs. Additional Duties • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Directors of Special Education. Note: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. • Ability to organize and coordinate work. • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
