Senior Director – Core Banking Transformation, Strategy Advisory 5178 Location: Remote CST Compensation: $250K–$280K base + bonus + profit sharing.Up to $350K/year total compensation. The Senior Director – Core Banking Transformation, Strategy Advisory will serve as a strategic leader responsible for defining the future-state direction of the bank’s core systems landscape. This is not an engineering or delivery leadership role. Instead, it is a high-impact advisory position focused on business capability mapping, core platform rationalization, and long-term transformation strategy. This leader will partner closely with executive stakeholders to guide critical decisions on core banking platforms, modernization pathways, and enterprise technology investments, helping the organization evolve from a fragmented, multi-core environment into a scalable, integrated digital backbone. Mission & Strategic Objective • Mission: Transform core banking into a scalable, business-aligned ecosystem that accelerates growth, agility, and innovation • Objective: Define and guide a future-state digital core strategy that supports the bank’s next phase of scale and complexity Key Responsibilities 1. Business Capability Mapping & Process Alignment • Map end-to-end business processes across banking domains (deposits, lending, payments, cards, wealth) • Align business capabilities to underlying core systems and supporting platforms • Identify redundancy, fragmentation, and inefficiency across the current ecosystem • Build a structured enterprise capability model to inform transformation decisions 2. Core Platform Rationalization • Evaluate existing platforms (e.g., Signature, Thought Machine, Fiserv, FIS, TSYS, etc.) • Assess: • Functional overlap • Integration complexity • Scalability constraints • Define clear strategies for: • Retain / modernize • Consolidate • Retire / replace • Deliver data-driven recommendations to executive leadership 3. Transformation Strategy & Roadmap Development • Define the target-state core banking ecosystem • Develop a multi-year transformation roadmap, including: • Platform strategy (single vs multi-core, hybrid) • Migration approach and sequencing • Key trade-offs and dependencies • Guide leadership on modernization options: • Progressive transformation • Platform replacement • Ensure alignment between roadmap and enterprise priorities 4. Market & Vendor Strategy • Conduct evaluations of core banking platforms and ecosystem solutions • Benchmark internal capabilities against external market offerings • Lead build vs. buy vs. partner analyses • Support vendor evaluation and strategic platform decisions 5. Executive Advisory & Strategic Alignment • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior technology and business leaders • Translate business strategy into actionable platform direction • Facilitate decision-making on: • Platform investments • Modernization sequencing • Strategic trade-offs • Align short-term business needs with long-term architecture goals 6. Cross-Functional Influence • Partner with: • Core platform leaders • Architecture and data teams • Product and business stakeholders • Influence outcomes without direct ownership of engineering or delivery teams • Operate effectively in a dynamic, evolving, and partially unstructured environment What This Role Is Not • Not responsible for engineering delivery or implementation • Not accountable for running large operational teams • Not a hands-on architecture or coding role This is a strategy-first, advisory leadership role Required Experience • 15+ years in banking, financial services, fintech, or consulting • Demonstrated experience in core banking transformation strategy • Experience evaluating or advising on: • Core platform modernization • Platform consolidation or selection • Background in: • Business architecture • Enterprise transformation strategy • Technology advisory • Proven success operating in ambiguous or evolving environments Preferred Background Strong preference for candidates with: • Experience at: • Big 4 or top-tier consulting firms (EY, Deloitte, PwC, Accenture, etc.) • OR banking leaders who have: • Led core transformation strategy (not just execution) • Worked across multiple core platforms and environments Core Capabilities • Business capability modeling and process mapping • Core banking system evaluation and rationalization • Strategic planning and roadmap development • Vendor and market analysis • Executive communication and influence • Structured problem-solving in complex environments Leadership Profile • Strategic thinker with strong advisory mindset • Comfortable influencing without direct authority • Effective in unstructured, fast-evolving environments • Strong executive presence and communication skills What Success Looks Like (First 12–18 Months) • Deliver a comprehensive business capability → core system mapping • Define and gain alignment on a core platform rationalization strategy • Establish a future-state core banking roadmap • Enable executive decision-making on: • Core platform direction • Long-term investment priorities • Create a repeatable framework for ongoing core evolution Compensation & Benefits • Base Salary: $250K – $280K • Bonus: Target 25% (up to 150% payout) • Profit sharing and full benefits package • 401(k) with immediate vesting Why This Role • Define—not just execute—the future of the bank’s core architecture • High visibility with executive leadership • Opportunity to shape a multi-year transformation strategy from the ground up • Direct impact on enterprise growth, scalability, and competitiveness
