About this Role The Director of Marketing will lead the strategic development and execution of Tides’ marketing actions to engage current partners, attract new partners, and elevate the organization’s public profile. Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, this senior leader blends creativity with data-driven strategy, overseeing a high-performing team and partner agencies to deliver bold storytelling, high-impact campaigns, and measurable results. The Director must have a strong background, preferably demonstrated by over 10 years of experience in writing and leading marketing for fundraising and growth campaigns, with a demonstrated track record in drafting cases for support and donor appeals. This role requires a visionary marketing leader with experience guiding multidisciplinary teams, advancing complex social or philanthropic causes, and stewarding brand growth across owned, earned, and paid channels. This role is expected to consistently demonstrate Tides’ JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) beliefs and core values of future focus, accountability, transparency, respect and collaboration in all aspects of their work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership (35%) Develop and execute an integrated marketing strategy aligned with Tides Network’s Strategic Plan and fundraising goals. Oversee brand positioning, messaging, and storytelling to amplify narrative change and elevate Tides’ influence across sectors. Partner closely with Advancement, Strategic Partnerships, and Communications teams to drive new unrestricted funding, to develop new assets, messaging, targeted campaigns and fundraising tools. Spearhead the collection and dissemination of powerful stories that highlight Tides’ impact and partners. Lead change and continuous improvement through directing and advising the Narrative Strategist production of high-quality content that shifts philanthropic narratives toward justice and equity. Establish key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and analytics frameworks to measure campaign impact and return on investment. Leverage insights to continuously refine marketing channels, creative, and messaging strategies. Cross-Departmental Collaboration (30%) Enable and model collaboration with teams across Tides Foundation and Tides Center to identify shared opportunities that support growth, visibility, and revenue goals. Foster strategic partnership on joint campaigns that drive both narrative change and new partner acquisition. Engage as the marketing liaison in cross-functional planning processes to ensure alignment across initiatives, messaging, and partner engagement strategies. Drive integrated storytelling and data-sharing efforts to maximize the reach and impact of Tides’ collective marketing efforts. Partner Growth + Stewardship (20%) Design and optimize multi-channel acquisition strategies targeting financial advisors, foundations, individuals, social change leaders, and corporate partners. Deliver optimized digital ad performance and audience segmentation for improved lead generation. Oversee enhancements to the partner engagement experience through content (stewardship and appeal assets), portals, and events. Team Leadership + Enablement (20%) Drive operational excellence through leadership and mentorship of a core team, including a Senior Creative Manager and Marketing Specialist. Manage and direct relationships with external agencies responsible for paid advertising, lead generation, and multimedia production. Promote collaboration and creativity across teams to ensure a cohesive voice, seamless execution, and maximum impact. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proven success leading cross-functional teams and managing external creative and media agencies. Strong strategic planning and budget management skills; experience managing seven-figure marketing budgets preferred. Hands-on understanding of digital marketing, acquisition funnels, paid media, and brand storytelling. Exceptional communication and storytelling skills with a commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion (JEDI) and social impact. Experience working with CRM, analytics, and automation platforms (Salesforce, Google Analytics, etc.). Advanced experience in ethical use of AI tools. Self-starter who has the proven ability to lead multiple streams of work simultaneously, with demonstrated experience working in a remote environment with staff in multiple time zones. Advanced experience using the project management tool, Asana. Education and Work Experience 8 years of direct experience with progressive responsibility in marketing leadership and a relevant bachelor’s degree; or 10 years of relevant experience. 3 years of experience in a supervisory capacity. 10 years of experience with progressive responsibility in marketing leadership, highly preferred. Experience working in philanthropic, non-profit, or mission driven sectors. Deep expertise and track record in writing for advancement and fundraising campaigns.
