Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and 7-10+ years of professional copy experience, ideally in DTC/e-commerce and wellness categories. A strong portfolio showcasing elevated language and copywriting guides/templates is required.

Position Summary: The Associate Copy Director (ACD) is a craft-forward, idea-driven, stylistically-minded, and beautifully-worded writer who turns brand voice into clear, channel-specific copywriting guides/templates – and keeps them maintained and evolving for various strategies and audiences. You’ll partner with designers and art directors and liaise with channel leaders (paid and organic social, product, editorial, CRM, and partnerships) to elevate the quality, consistency, and distinctiveness of Thorne’s tone across brand and product campaigns and ongoing content initiatives. You’ll bring a strategic edge and elevated style to our writing approach – shaping thoughtful, compelling ideas and reframes that embody the Thorne Modern Maverick tone and point of view, to captivate more people and bring them into the brand – while maintaining high day-to-day writing quality with a fast, robust task list. You’ll help coach more junior writers and freelancers to help stretch their conceptual and strategic skills, and their understanding of the Thorne tone of voice and flex moments/opportunities, while ensuring copy remains accurate, accessible, compliant, and unmistakably Thorne. This is a remote position. Responsibilities * Brand voice evolution for specific channels: * Evolve Thorne’s distinct brand voice into channel-specific copywriting guides/templates that can stretch and flex copy style and guide other Thorne writers when developing content; ensuring the voice travels and captivates audiences in different formats but remains true to its core; maintain and socialize copywriting channel guides and templates. * Messaging style & storytelling experimentation: * Champion a tone that is science-backed yet human, elevated yet accessible, and experiment with style and storytelling to evolve how the Thorne voice engages in various channels and contexts; model the “bar” for craft on every brief. * Elevate tone quality & consistency (across channels & campaigns): * Help uphold the copywriting craft “bar” and develop initial messaging/frameworks/templates for brand-owned channels, social and CRM. product launches, and campaigns–ensuring clarity, consistency, and resonance. * Translate technical product and health education/information into compelling, thought-provoking and consumer-friendly copy that drives trust and engagement * Collaborate closely with Brand, Product, and Growth teams to ensure copy and messaging delivers on objectives/strategy. * Idea & strategic copywriting development (Modern Maverick POV): * Help bridge briefs to initial copy development: assist in framing the problem/challenge/context, clarify the audience insight, and propose narrative angles that reframe the message with Thorne’s Modern Maverick pov/clarity. * Help generate thought-starter copy or territories, POV statements, and “perspective shift” narratives that turn science-backed rigor and human insight into compelling content. * Collaboration with Design & Art Direction: * Pair closely with designers/ADs to co-develop concepts, and copy-first layouts and templates. * Provide clear annotations, handoffs and feedback; ensure copy fits the grid, improves comprehension, and supports accessibility. * Channel Partnering & Alignment: * Liaise with brand-owned channel leads to align objectives with messaging and audience needs. * Join intake/kickoffs, help discuss briefs, brainstorm ideas and surface copy considerations early to reduce iterations and keep momentum while pushing and evolving our copywriting style. * Day-to-Day Writing & Editing: * Own your to-do list/copy tasks as well as lead brand and product campaign copy deliverables and content initiatives across channels while maintaining speed, accuracy, and voice integrity in a high-volume workflow. * Edit for clarity, brevity, and impact; QA against brand standards, approved claims, and required disclaimers. * Apply AEO and SEO best practices (conversational language, readable formats, keywords, metadata, etc...) without sacrificing readability or relevance. * Mentorship & Team Development: * Help coach junior/mid and senior writers and freelancers via reviews and working sessions; help develop conceptual range, strategic rationale, and presentation skills. * Help lead short “copy crits,” share prompt libraries/playbook updates, and showcase winning examples to raise the bar. * Help foster a culture of sharp, conceptual thinking, creative ideation and copy style experimentation, with attention to craft/discipline, pride in one’s own work, and continuous improvement. * Compliance & Accuracy: * Liase with science/medical affairs, legal, and regulatory to keep claims/disclaimers current and correctly applied. * Help document decisions for future reference. * Balance storytelling with responsibility–especially in how we speak about wellness, ingredients, and efficacy. What You Need * Bachelor’s degree in communications, arts or a relevant field of study. * 7-10+ years of professional copy experience (in-house or agency; ideally both) with demonstrated mentorship; DTC/e-commerce required; wellness/regulated categories a plus. * Portfolio showing craft and examples of copywriting guides/templates or campaign concepts and/or copy development across various channels, evidence of elevated language and/or elevated tone and ideally provoking thought through copy and compelling statements. * Proven collaborator with designers/ADs and channel owners; strong brief-taking, rationale, and presentation skills. * Organized and detail-driven; able to manage multiple deadlines while preserving quality and voice consistency. * Tools: Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with ChatGPT/AI writing tools, Figma for copy/design collaboration; social channel best practices, SEO; comfort with project management tools (e.g. Wrike, Jira, Asana).
