Summary We are seeking a Director of Operations to join our team at Thomas & Skinner, Inc., located in Indianapolis, Indiana. In this critical role, you will manage our fast-growing aerospace and defense manufacturing company's day-to-day activities including overseeing the end-to-end production operations of a foundry, powder metallurgy plant, heat treating facility, precision machine shop and stamping plant, focusing on improving efficiency and implementing long-term strategies. Key responsibilities include overseeing production, managing budgets, developing policies, capacity build-out and collaborating with other departments to ensure operational goals align with business objectives. This is an executive-level role, reporting to the VP of Operations and Technology. Responsibilities • Strategic planning: Develop and implement long-term operational strategies, set staffing goals, providing recommendations for future capital investment and create budgets to align with company objectives. • Operational oversight: Manage day-to-day activities, including production, distribution, and delivery of products or services. • Supply Chain Management: Responsible for providing lead time to customer requirements, setting WIP target levels as well as inventory levels of raw materials and consumables. • Process improvement: Analyze current operations to identify areas for improvement and implement new policies and procedures to increase efficiency and reduce costs. • Financial management: Oversee budgets, analyze financial reports, and manage resources to optimize usage. • Team leadership: Lead and mentor staff, manage performance, and oversee employee recruitment, evaluation, and advancement. • Cross-functional collaboration: Work with other departments, such as sales, engineering, quality assurance, marketing, and HR, to ensure company-wide goals are met. • Vendor management: In conjunction with purchasing build and maintain relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure smooth and timely delivery of goods and services. • Performance tracking: Develop and implement metrics to track operational performance and provide reports to senior management. Requirements • Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, such as industrial, mechanical or materials engineering, business, or operations management. Masters degree, MBA or equivalent a plus • Experience: Several years of supervisory and management experience, particularly in a relevant industry, are required. Leadership experience in an AS9100 build to contract manufacturer of custom components a plus. • Skills: Strong strategic thinking, financial acumen, and excellent communication and leadership skills are essential. Working knowledge or Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, metallurgy, and CNC machining a plus.
