As Director of Occupational Safety and Environmental Management, you'll lead critical initiatives that protect human health and environment for our vibrant campus community of students, faculty, and staff while advancing our mission of education, research, and service. The Director of Occupational Safety and Environmental Management is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive EHS policies, programs, and management systems across the organization. This role involves managing core areas such as occupational health, injury prevention, industrial hygiene, and compliance with all applicable EPA, OSHA, and NFPA regulations. Key duties include creating and delivering EHS training and educational tools, conducting risk/safety assessments, ensuring regulatory reporting and record-keeping, and providing expert guidance to unit leaders and contractors. The manager will monitor EHS performance metrics, analyze statistics for mandatory reporting, and actively participate in job safety reviews to ensure compliance. This position requires acting responding to EHS incidents, which may necessitate support outside of standard business hours, and serving as backup to the AVP for Compliance & EHS. Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Occupational/Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience; OR at least 8 years of experience in the field of Occupational/Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Experience with EPA, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, managing necessary records and permits. Medically fit to wear a respirator. Valid drivers license with low risk driving record. Preferred Qualifications: While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following: More than 8 years of experience. Certified Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist, State of Ohio. Working in higher education with researchers and showing a track record of maintaining compliance. Experience developing protocols, and education and training programs for safety and environmental issues on federal, state, and local requirements.
