Pediatric Dentist – Part Time As a pediatric dentist, your main goal is to provide specialized dental care for children from infancy through their teenage years. With a strong focus on preventive care, you should aim to educate both patients and parents about the importance of good oral hygiene practices. • As a pediatric dentist, your primary responsibility is to provide dental care to children from infancy through adolescence. • You must have specialized training in treating the unique oral health needs of young patients, including preventive care, restorative treatments, and orthodontics. • Building rapport with children is essential in this role, as you need to create a positive and comfortable environment for them during their dental visits. • Educating both parents and children on proper oral hygiene practices is crucial in promoting good dental habits from an early age. • Conducting thorough examinations and diagnosing any issues or abnormalities in a child's mouth are vital aspects of your job as a pediatric dentist. • Pediatric Dentists must provide care in various disciplines of pediatric dental practice, including diagnosis, preventative dentistry, operative dentistry, sedation, periodontics, pulpal therapy, oral surgery, and orthodontics. • It is essential for the Pediatric Dentist to expand and maintain rapport with the dental community in the service area by interacting with other dental personnel outside of the office and actively seeking to broaden referral networks. • Acquiring and maintaining hospital privileges at a local hospital (if applicable) is a key responsibility of the Pediatric Dentist. • The dentist must engage actively with the dental provider team to determine clinical guidelines for the dental program and comply with established Dental Office Standards of Care. • As an equal member of the team, it is important for them to support and teach team members at their offices while demonstrating knowledge of pediatric dental practices. • Pediatric Dentists play a crucial role in ensuring optimal access to care for patients by maintaining high clinical productivity and addressing barriers to care. • They are responsible for collaborating effectively with team members outside of the dental field, promoting integration between medical and dental office systems. • Providing necessary documentation and paperwork to Human Resources staff for credentialing and privileging is a key duty of the Pediatric Dentist. • A pediatric dentist should be able to show respect towards staff and patients, be approachable, and demonstrate good teamwork skills through appropriately giving and receiving feedback. • Handling daily clinical work efficiently while striving to improve the patient and staff experience within the dental office is a pediatric dentist's duty. • They should demonstrate positive leadership qualities and strong communication skills — including motivational interviewing techniques — to enhance overall patient care. • They should collaborate effectively with teammates on both clinical and administrative levels, seeking guidance and feedback when needed. • They should utilize electronic dental and health records, registries, and templates efficiently to ensure accurate documentation. • A pediatric dentist should be able to maintain a safe work environment by staying informed of and compliant with the dental office's safety policies. Requirements: Education & Experience • DDS/DMD degree from an accredited university • Active state dental board license • Certificate from an accredited pediatric residency program • Current oral conscious sedation certificate • Current malpractice insurance Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: • As a pediatric dentist, it is crucial to have the ability to diagnose and treat dental and oral diseases with precision and accuracy. • A strong working knowledge of the principles, standard practices, methods, and techniques of dentistry is essential for providing top-notch care to young patients. • Understanding preventative dentistry and implementing risk-based care strategies are key components in promoting good oral health among children. • Skill in oral operative techniques is necessary for performing procedures effectively while maintaining a comfortable experience for young patients. • Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with both patients and staff is vital for creating a positive environment in which children can receive dental care. • Working collaboratively in a team-based care setting helps ensure comprehensive treatment plans that address all aspects of a child's oral health needs. • The application of quality improvement practices demonstrates a commitment to continuously enhancing the level of care provided by staying up to date on best practices within the field.
