Job Title: Senior Research Scientist Department: ERIK | Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center Job Summary: The Senior Research Scientist will provide a review of past research on wide-band microwave radiometric measurements of ice sheets and sea ice, assist in consolidating and refining Cryorad mission objectives and requirements related to measurements of ice sheet temperature, and sea ice thickness and salinity, and will expand on the glaciologic rational for these objectives and help illustrate how mission requirements and objectives flow from the scientific goals. In addition, the Senior Research Scientist will develop case studies for both the ice sheet and sea ice case aimed at understanding measurement sensitivities and providing a basis for testing inversion methods. Required Education and Experience A Doctoral degree in an appropriate field is required. At this level, the researcher is a nationally recognized authority and leader in an area of widespread scientific interest and investigator who will typically have received honors and awards from major national organizations for his/her accomplishments. This person is sought as an advisor and consultant on scientific and technological programs and problems. His/her reputation as a scientific leader is such that the incumbent serves as a recruiting attraction for other scientists who seek opportunities to work under the researcher’s inspiration and guidance. The incumbent’s personal competence is likely to be a major consideration in agency sponsorship of programs in his/her field.
