Senior Project Manager – Hazardous Materials Department The Senior Project Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership for our Hazardous Materials (Haz. Mat.) Department, overseeing all aspects of project execution, performance, and delivery. This individual will manage and execute complex environmental projects from inception through completion — ensuring technical excellence, client satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and profitability. The ideal candidate is a seasoned environmental professional with strong leadership capabilities, proven business development skills, and a track record of mentoring teams while managing client relationships and driving organizational success. Key Measures of Success: Effectively balancing project timelines, budgets, and quality while maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations. Success in this position requires combining technical acumen with strategic thinking and client-centered communication. Primary Responsibilities • Lead and manage a diverse portfolio of environmental projects, including site investigations, remediation, permitting, regulatory compliance, and sustainability programs. • Act as the main point of contact for clients, fostering strong relationships, clear communication, and long-term partnerships. • Develop and oversee project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables in accordance with client goals and regulatory standards. • Provide leadership and mentorship to project teams, guiding staff across multiple experience levels. • Ensure full adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations and industry standards. • Review and approve technical reports, proposals, and client presentations. • Monitor project performance metrics and take corrective actions when needed to maintain scope, schedule, and financial objectives. • Contribute to business development initiatives, including proposal preparation, client meetings, and participation in industry events. • Uphold high standards of safety, quality, and risk management across all departmental operations. • Establish project objectives, allocate key resources, and set clear deadlines for successful completion. • Serve as Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) officer for the department and conduct final peer reviews of project deliverables. • Manage departmental budgets, analyze project costs, and ensure financial performance goals are met. • Collaborate with regulatory agencies and clients as needed. • Provide ongoing technical and administrative training for Haz. Mat. staff. • Assist company leadership with recruitment and professional development of team members. Qualifications • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental consulting or related fields. • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred). • Professional registration or certification strongly preferred (e.g., PE, PG, PMP, CHMM). • Demonstrated experience managing complex environmental projects from concept through completion. • In-depth understanding of federal, state, and municipal environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, Brownfield, OER). • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret complex findings and present them clearly to clients and stakeholders. • Familiarity with environmental site assessments (Phase I & II ESAs) and remediation processes.
