Full Description

Description The National WWII Museum is currently seeking a Staff Accountant II. Reporting to the Controller, the Staff Accountant II assists with month end close procedures completing assigned balance sheet and income statement reconciliations, billing and accounts receivable functions, processing of wire payments, filing and remitting sales tax, and special projects as assigned. Staff Accountant II also serves as backup to the Staff Accountant and Accounting Clerk to ensure all month-end closing duties are complete. The Staff Accountant II provides training and assistance to the Accounting Clerk on an as needed basis. Requirements Complete bank reconciliations for all Museum bank accounts timely and accurately as part of month end close including following up and resolving any outstanding reconciling items. Prepare and complete all assigned balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations during the monthly close process, including but not limited to unearned revenue, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, and miscellaneous receivables. Monitor daily bank activity and records bank transactions as necessary. Review Accounting Clerk’s journal entries for daily ticketing and retail cash receipts. Complete monthly deposit clearing account reconciliation as part of month end close procedures ensuring all transactions are accounted for. Serve as system administrator for Museum’s credit cards including troubleshooting, activating/deactivating cards, alerting managers to submit/approve coding, and reviewing the coding and purpose of monthly charges for compliance with Museum policy. Enter international and domestic wire payments into the banking system to be reviewed and released for payment communicating with the accounting team to make sure they are accurately recorded in the accounting system and that wire templates are up to date. Calculate and file monthly sales tax remittances in a timely manner. Collect billing and payment for various departments while maintaining an accurate AR Aging while monitoring and following up on past due accounts. Provide assistance with cash receipts, disbursements, and data entry when necessary. Assist with budget, annual audit, tax return and special audits (worker’s comp, 401k etc.). Provide backup support to the Accounting Clerk during absences or peak periods. Provide training and guidance to the Accounting Clerk with cash receipts, disbursements, and data entry when necessary. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with strong GAAP knowledge and 3+ years working in a fast-paced accounting. department or public accounting setting. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Products with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel. Experience working within an ERP System (specifically Blackbaud Financial Edge is a plus). Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to learn various databases and software programs to perform analysis and reconciliations and successfully research and resolve discrepancies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Initiative, organizational skills, good judgment, and the ability to handle a high volume of transactions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Detail-oriented and reliable with a commitment to accuracy.
