Job Title: Associate Director, Executive Communications and Deputy Speechwriter Division: External Affairs Department: Brand Strategy Reports To: Senior Director, Executive Communications FLSA Status: Exempt Level: Senior Professional Location: DC Headquarters Office Position Overview: The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is the most influential voice for manufacturing in the United States—representing many of the world’s most iconic brands and thousands of small and medium manufacturers across the country. As the Associate Director, Executive Communications, you will play a key position in our award-winning Brand Strategy team supporting speechwriting, research, message development and executive communications execution overall, contributing to high-impact materials that engage leading manufacturing executives, policymakers and the public. Beyond speeches, the position will help develop and edit board reports, messaging guides, marketing materials, presentations, emails and video scripts, ensuring alignment across all executive communications platforms. Reporting to the Senior Director of Executive Communications and Chief Speechwriter, this role helps shape and elevate communications for the NAM’s top executives—including President and CEO Jay Timmons, Executive Vice President Erin Streeter and Manufacturing Institute President Carolyn Lee—as well as other NAM leaders and surrogates. Responsibilities: Support Executive Speechwriting: Research, draft and edit remarks, talking points, op-eds, articles and online content for the NAM’s senior leadership and other high-profile surrogates. Enhance Executive Messaging: Assist in developing presentations and supporting materials that advance the NAM’s strategic priorities and policy objectives. Vet and Shape Speaking Opportunities: Help identify, research and evaluate prospective speaking engagements for NAM leaders; collaborate with event organizers to determine the best format, flow and structure to maximize impact. Contribute Across Channels: Collaborate with colleagues to create compelling content for executive communications, board materials, marketing products, reports and videos. Strengthen Strategic Storytelling: Help ensure that messaging across the NAM and the Manufacturing Institute reflects the organization’s brand voice, values and impact. Advance the Executive Communications Portfolio: Support the planning, coordination and execution of communications projects that highlight the NAM’s leadership and advocacy results. Assist with Copywriting for Digital Advocacy and Membership Marketing: Support the development of persuasive, on-brand copy for web pages, emails, social media, digital ads and other marketing materials that drive advocacy engagement and member recruitment or retention. Provide Research and Insight: Develop background materials, message frameworks and strategic recommendations to inform and strengthen executive remarks and initiatives. Collaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with all Brand Strategy, Executive Operations, Strategic Communications/Public Affairs and Policy teams to ensure message alignment, quality and timely delivery. Adapt and Excel in a Fast-Paced Environment: Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, balancing immediate needs with long-term priorities. Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications or related field preferred. 5 –7 years' experience in the communications field 2+ years of experience in speechwriting Significant experience preparing a variety of written materials of varying topics and styles for diverse audiences. Experience that demonstrates excellent writing, proofing, editing, research and project management skills. Advanced knowledge of business, American government and public policy. Ability to work with a broad cross-section of the organization. Ability to work under tight deadlines. Digital publishing experience is a plus. Salary Range: $78,000 - $110,000 annually. This salary range represents a good-faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position.
