The Lead Group, a rapidly growing online lead generation company with offices in Kansas City & Atlanta, is looking to expand its operations in the Kansas City office. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Lead PHP Developer to join our development team. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this person will be responsible for leading development initiatives on our Display & SMS platforms. The ideal candidate will bring a mix of deep PHP knowledge, architectural insight, and a collaborative mindset to help scale and maintain our web applications. Responsibilities • Development & Architecture • Lead the development of PHP-based web applications and backend services. • Architect scalable, maintainable, and secure systems. • Review and optimize application performance and database queries. • Maintain and enhance internal libraries, APIs, and third-party integrations. • Code Quality & Best Practices • Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards. • Promote best practices in software design, testing, and documentation. • Ensure test coverage and participate in automated testing initiatives. • Cross-Team Collaboration • Collaborate with product managers, developers on other products, and QA engineers. • Work closely with DevOps to ensure efficient CI/CD pipelines and environment stability. • Participate in sprint planning and retrospective meetings. • Technical Ownership • Maintain deep understanding of TLG systems and backend architecture. • Propose and lead technical initiatives to improve application scalability and reliability. • Document product architecture, sub-components, and the development process. • Team Leadership & Mentorship • Onboard, mentor and support junior developer(s) & QA engineer. • Lead technical discussions and help resolve complex coding challenges. • Foster a collaborative, results-driven culture. Milestones • 90 days • Build a high-level understanding of TLG business & related code repositories. • Be fully up to speed on the existing development processes (coding standards, deployment pipeline, JIRA tickets flow). • Be able to independently work on minor requests, some maintenance tasks, and review smaller PRs. • Develop working knowledge of the data model for one of the products. • 6 months • Develop a much deeper understanding of the Display or SMS platforms (codebases, data model, cloud infrastructure) and be able to work on requests of any size. • Develop working knowledge of the Datawarehouse and be able to generate reports/alerts from it. • 1 year • Be able to influence application architecture and other technical decisions across products. • Be able to execute projects of any size, spanning multiple systems and stakeholders from start to finish. Requirements • 7+ years of proven MVC software development experience using object-oriented PHP. • Strong knowledge of PHP 8+ and at least one major PHP framework (Laravel, Symfony, etc.). • Good understanding of design patterns, and experience implementing those with PHP. • Excellent relational database skills with MySQL (PostgreSQL or SQL Server experience is acceptable). • Experience in a high-traffic or performance-sensitive environment is a plus. • Good knowledge of version control tools (preferably Git). • Hands-on experience with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JQuery, JavaScript, AJAX. • Experience with AWS (or any other public cloud) is a must. • Passion for best design and coding practices with an emphasis on KISS principle. • Strong analytical & problem-solving skills. • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject.
