Senior Accountant – Tax, Payroll & Financial Operations This position plays a key role in maintaining the organization’s financial integrity by overseeing core accounting activities and ensuring accurate, timely reporting. It’s well‑suited for a detail‑driven professional who thrives on organized financial systems, clear processes, and independent responsibility. Role Overview • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger oversight to maintain accurate financial records. • Manage preparation and submission of various tax filings across multiple jurisdictions, including sales and use tax, payroll‑related filings, and other required state and local returns. • Handle weekly in‑house payroll for non‑union staff and support payroll processing for union employees; coordinate year‑end W‑2 distribution. • Complete monthly reconciliations for bank accounts and credit card activity. • Process daily remote deposits and record related transactions. • Prepare and issue annual 1099 forms for applicable vendors. • Maintain internal controls related to financial reporting, period‑end close, and other key accounting workflows. • Generate financial reports and analyses as requested by leadership. • Investigate and resolve discrepancies by reviewing and interpreting account activity. • Support the budgeting process by compiling financial data and performing variance analysis. • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash‑flow activities to ensure accurate and timely processing. • Assist with external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and compliance‑related materials. • Analyze financial trends, prepare variance explanations, and recommend improvements to accounting procedures and systems. • Keep financial documentation organized and audit‑ready. • Serve as an advanced user of the company’s ERP system, helping refine processes, reporting, and system integrations. Required Skills & Background • Strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with federal, state, and local tax compliance. • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office. • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. • High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail. • Strong analytical thinking and problem‑solving abilities. • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively. • Self‑motivated and capable of working independently while contributing to team goals. • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. • At least five years of progressive accounting experience. • Experience in construction or project‑based industries is beneficial.
