Director, Communications McLean, Virginia (Hybrid) The International Foodservice Distributors Association (IFDA) is seeking a seasoned Director of Communications to lead external communications, media relations, and advocacy messaging for the association. Reporting to the VP, Marketing & Communications, this role serves as IFDA’s primary media liaison and works closely with senior leadership—including the President & CEO and SVP of Government & Public Affairs—to elevate IFDA’s profile and advance policy priorities. Key Responsibilities · Serve as IFDA’s primary media contact and spokesperson · Develop and execute media relations and public affairs strategies · Pitch stories, manage press inquiries, and coordinate interviews · Write press releases, op-eds, statements, and thought leadership content · Support advocacy and government affairs communications · Translate complex policy issues into clear, compelling messages · Measure communications impact and manage issues/crisis communications Qualifications · Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, political science, or related field · 7+ years of progressive communications experience, including Capitol Hill or trade association/advocacy work · Strong Beltway/Washington, DC media and public affairs experience · Exceptional writing and media relations skills · Understanding of legislative and regulatory processes Preferred · Foodservice, distribution, or supply chain industry experience · Familiarity with Cision One, PR Newswire, HubSpot · Experience managing press at industry events · Social media strategy experience Additional Details · Hybrid schedule: In-office Monday, Wednesday, Friday; remote Tuesday, Thursday · Minimal travel (up to 10%) 👉 Join IFDA and help shape the national conversation around the foodservice distribution industry.
