We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer to join our software development team in our Worcester office. This role offers flexibility and can be performed in-office or hybrid. Remote work location will be considered. POSITION OVERVIEW: In this role, you will play a part in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions. You will participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance. This is a full time, exempt role. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Design and develop highly reliable full‑stack solutions using React.js and Spring Boot. Build new applications, prototypes, and proof‑of‑concept solutions. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including architects, business analysts, and QA engineers. Own the design, coding, unit testing, deployment, and monitoring of the software you build. Work closely with product owners, developers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment on solution delivery. Translate business requirements into scalable, high‑performing systems. Ensure code quality through unit testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices. Optimize application performance, security, and stability. Participate in architecture and design reviews. Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement. Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and process improvements. Build knowledge of P&C insurance concepts, business processes, and Hanover systems. WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field OR 5 years of professional software development experience. Strong work ethic, prioritization skills, and attention to detail. 3-5 years of professional software development experience. 3+ years of hands‑on full‑stack development experience (React + Java). Expert knowledge of Java and Spring Boot. Strong knowledge of React.js. Excellent communication skills. Excellent problem‑solving and analytical abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks simultaneously. Strong understanding of monitoring, observability, and application performance management. Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (i.e Lawful Permanent Residence or US Citizen) BONUS POINTS FOR: Experience with containerization (Kubernetes, Docker). Experience using GitHub Copilot or similar AI‑assisted development platforms. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, and deployments. Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Experience with UX/UI concepts and front‑end best practices.
