Review, refine, and improve financial models for startups and businesses, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
2-5 years of financial modeling experience with VC-backed companies or SBA lending, advanced Excel skills, and experience with investor/lender models.
Who We Are and Why This Role Matters The Exceptional Plan is a full lifecycle business services company. We support founders from start to scale to exit across strategy, finance, accounting, marketing, and execution. Our work continues to expand as we bring together people who are exceptional at what they do and serious about doing it well. We are on a mission to change what it means to be a business owner globally. Most businesses fail not because founders lack effort, but because they lack financial clarity and reliable guidance early enough to make different decisions. Our goal is to reduce the global business failure rate by at least 10% by giving founders stronger structure and better insight when it matters most. Financial modeling sits at the center of that mission. This role directly influences how businesses are built, funded, and sustained. About the Role We are looking for a Financial Analyst with direct experience in venture capital-backed companies, VC facing financial models, or SBA lending and underwriting. This role goes beyond building models from scratch. You will be expected to review, refine, and improve existing models continuously. We do not treat templates as static. We expect our analysts to question assumptions, strengthen logic, and raise the standard over time. This is a high ownership role working across multiple client engagements. You will collaborate closely with writers, strategists, and account teams while maintaining responsibility for the integrity and clarity of the financial work. This is not a side gig. We are not looking for someone fitting this around another full time role. This is a long term opportunity starting as a contract with a clear path to expanded responsibility and full time work for the right person. What You Will Be Doing • Building and refining financial models for startups and operating businesses • Developing detailed projections across revenue, expenses, growth, and cash flow • Applying VC and SBA relevant logic including unit economics, funding assumptions, repayment structures, and lender or investor expectations • Reviewing and improving existing internal models, templates, and frameworks • Clearly documenting assumptions and logic so models can be reviewed, defended, and trusted • Summarizing key financial insights for business plans, pitch decks, and capital discussions • Collaborating with writers, strategists, and account executives • Managing multiple client projects at once without sacrificing quality • Iterating quickly based on feedback while maintaining accuracy and structure What We Are Looking For • 2-5 years of hands on financial modeling experience • Direct experience with VC backed companies, VC fundraising models, or SBA lending and underwriting is required • Strong command of Excel or Google Sheets with advanced formulas and financial logic • Proven experience building pro forma statements, forecasts, and multi year financial models • Comfort modeling for both investor and lender audiences • Ability to move between high level summaries and detailed underlying assumptions • Strong documentation and communication skills • High attention to detail and internal consistency • Willingness to continuously improve systems, models, and processes • Availability during standard business hours from 8 AM to 6 PM EST If you are looking for short term project work or something to supplement another role, this will not be a good fit. Our Values We build everything around these principles: • Creative. We think deliberately and avoid shortcuts. • Innovative. We improve systems instead of repeating broken ones. • Accountable. We do what we say we will do. • Results driven. Our work changes outcomes, not optics. • Trustworthy. We handle sensitive financial information with integrity. • Exceptional. We are never satisfied with “good enough.” We expect our analysts to actively uphold these values by continuously raising the quality of their work. Why This Role Stands Out • Long term opportunity starting on contract with a path to full time • Direct exposure to investor and lender facing financial work • Meaningful impact on how businesses raise and manage capital • Opportunity to improve and shape internal modeling standards • Collaboration with a focused, mission driven team • Performance based bonuses tied to quality, volume, and client outcomes How to Apply Please send: • Your resume • A brief note describing your experience with VC or SBA financial modeling • Sample financial models or anonymized client work if available We are looking for analysts who want to build something long term, take ownership of quality, and continuously raise the bar. Job Types: Full-time, Contract Pay: $32.00 - $40.00 per hour Benefits: • Flexible schedule Work Location: Remote
