Position Summary Our client, a leading distributor of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, is seeking a Senior Systems Controls Engineer to join their engineering team in Portland, Oregon. This hybrid role will play a key part in bridging sales concepts to functional control systems across both industrial automation systems and mobile hydraulic platforms. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer who thrives in a hands-on environment, someone who can design and program PLC-based systems, create hydraulic and electrical schematics, and help lead the technical execution of projects ranging from one-off custom builds to high-volume production. The right candidate brings a rare blend of electrical control experience and hydraulic system expertise, especially in mobile equipment applications (e.g., oil & gas rigs, heavy trucks, or construction equipment). You ll collaborate closely with internal teams, vendors, and shop floor staff to bring complex, electromechanical solutions to life. Responsibilities • Translate customer concepts, sketches, and sales notes into engineered electrical and hydraulic system designs • Select components, create electrical and hydraulic schematics, and produce complete fabrication drawings • Develop PLC and HMI programs for both industrial systems and mobile equipment (including Allen-Bradley, CoDeSys, Danfoss, and Siemens platforms) • Partner with shop personnel to support fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality and performance standards are met • Use CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, and CoDeSys for design and documentation • Write and execute test procedures, verify system operation, and lead troubleshooting efforts on the shop floor • Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing hands-on guidance in design, programming, and system validation • Maintain organized documentation, version control, and design records using Autodesk Vault and company standards Minimum Experience • 10+ years of experience in systems controls engineering with a focus on both industrial automation and mobile hydraulics • Strong knowledge of fluid power systems, manifolds, control panels, and motion control • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., CoDeSys, ladder logic) and familiarity with multimeters, schematics, DC/AC circuits, and panel layout design • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Vault, and Inventor • A strategic mindset with the ability to prioritize competing projects and drive execution under tight timelines • Strong communication and collaboration skills and comfortable working cross-functionally and on the shop floor • Bachelor s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience) Additional Plus: • Experience with mobile hydraulic systems on oil & gas, utility, or construction vehicles • Background working in a custom manufacturing or OEM environment • Ability to support or mentor junior engineers or contractors Salary / Wage Range $120,000-$140,000/year Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
