DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Development and Communications team directs DC Central Kitchen’s fundraising, communications, marketing, event planning, and advocacy activities. This diverse team of ten skilled professionals oversees DCCK’s external affairs, stewards nearly 11,000 annual donors, manages marketing and communications efforts for the organization as a whole and for each DCCK social venture, raises $13 million in donations each year, and organizes Capital Food Fight, the city’s best foodie event. We prioritize transparency, teamwork, and creativity in our daily work while taking an asset-based approach to storytelling and upholding donor-centered fundraising practices. POSITION DESCRIPTION: As an essential part of our Communications team, the Communications Coordinator is a generalist position ideal for developmental professionals eager to engage in a variety of communications projects and functions at a high-profile nonprofit and social enterprise. The Coordinator will have a significant role in event management, providing key logistical support for DCCK’s signature Capital Food Fight event along with other smaller-scale fundraising events and community fundraising activations throughout the year. Event-related tasks include managing: committed sponsors, restaurant and industry partners, volunteers, in-kind and silent auction contributors, event supplies and materials, and recordkeeping. The Coordinator will also assist in website content capture and generation, earned media engagement, departmental project management, and corporate sponsor recognition activities. This position also includes developmental public speaking and outreach opportunities such as tours, tabling, workplace giving activations, and public-facing events. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: · Support essential event management tasks for Capital Food Fight, including restaurant outreach and management; silent auction curation and planning, celebrity travel and accommodations, and inventory and supply management. Other roles include tracking and managing committed sponsors, ensuring accurate sponsor recognition, and developing post-event sponsor reports. · Support additional fundraising events and community-based fundraising activations through partner and vendor management, promotion planning, and recognition. Examples include in-home fundraisers, retailer round-up donation campaigns, and cause marketing activities benefiting DCCK. · Capture and generate written content for use on our website, e-newsletter, and social media channels. · Support earned media efforts through monitoring coverage, identifying media opportunities, and managing requests for b-roll and other pre-existing content. · Support departmental project management activities through internal communications, task tracking, and deadline management. · Execute DCCK corporate sponsor recognition activities, including social media content, website and email content, and managing check presentations. · Participate in tours, tabling opportunities, workplace giving activities, and other community-facing events involving fundraising and donor engagement opportunities for DCCK. These events may be scheduled for nights, weekends, and at locations across the DMV, requiring the Coordinator to manage their schedule, availability, and local travel accordingly. · Perform other duties and tasks as required to maintain quality relationships with all our partners and customers and / or duties and tasks needed to drive the vision, mission, and values of DC Central Kitchen. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Evident passion for DC Central Kitchen’s mission and programs. · 1 to 2 years of professional experience in communications, public relations, event planning, marketing, or nonprofit fundraising (this standard is inclusive of internship, service corps, and fellowship experiences). · Strong writing, editing, and communication skills. · Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required, experience with web design, graphic design, and social media platforms preferred. · Excellent organizational and deadline management skills with the ability to multi-task. · A relentless self-starter capable of making sound, ethical, independent judgements, sometimes on the fly. · Desire to be part of a fast-paced, high-energy, and collaborative team of high-performing development professionals. · Pre-employment background check and drug test are required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: · Must be capable of independent local travel across the greater DC region. · Must be able to work nights and weekends. · May occasionally move Audio/Visual and other office equipment or lightweight items weighing up to 20 pounds for various meeting and event needs. Some functions of this position may require moderate physical activity, including transporting, positioning, installing, or removing office equipment items, such as printers, computers, phones, and so on. · The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office and commercial kitchen space to access supplies, materials, file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer; constantly positions self to access and maintain computer equipment; and must be able to remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the time. · Must be able to work in an environment where exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and a variety of odors is common. · This job description is subject to change at any time.
