Job description: The C.A.S.E. Engineering Group, LLC is seeking a highly skilled Software Developer to support a federal modernization effort for the Internal Revenue Service’s Integrated Collection System (ICS). This role will lead initial development activities focused on translating legacy C# components to Java, building modern, secure backend services, and laying the technical foundation for a document digitization and case management solution. This is a full-time position supporting a long-term project (18+ months) to transition field case file processes from paper to digital, using scalable cloud and database technologies. Responsibilities: • Translate legacy C# code into Java-based services and components using Spring Boot. • Build and test RESTful APIs to support document storage, retrieval, and ICS system integration. • Work closely with architects and database engineers to establish backend data flows. • Configure JBOSS for secure, high-availability deployment of Java services. • Interface with Oracle databases and update relevant data access components. • Implement best practices for GitHub version control, including branching and peer review. • Create and maintain technical documentation, including code comments, architecture diagrams, and configuration guides. • Support early testing (unit and QA) and prepare code for integration into Agile sprints. • Collaborate with government stakeholders and future team members during knowledge transfer and onboarding phases. Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. • 6+ years of hands-on experience developing in Java (JDK 1.8+) with strong proficiency in Spring Boot, REST APIs, and enterprise backend systems. • Demonstrated experience with Pro C development. • Strong experience with Shell Scripting. • Experience working with C# or ability to understand and refactor C# codebases. • Familiarity with JBOSS or similar enterprise Java application servers. • Working knowledge of Oracle databases, including writing SQL queries and managing connectivity. • Proficiency with Linux environments (e.g., Red Hat Enterprise Linux - RHEL 8). • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and practices. • Proven experience in an Agile development environment, including robust working knowledge of GitHub for version control and collaboration. • Proficiency using Eclipse or similar Java IDEs. • Strong technical writing skills and the ability to create clear, accurate documentation. • U.S. Citizenship is required; must be eligible to pass a federal background investigation. Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with AWS Cloud Services and document storage solutions (e.g., S3). • Exposure to Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms. • Understanding of IRS systems or experience with large-scale federal modernization efforts.
