This position supports a mission-critical federal enterprise integration environment transforming a centralized API onboarding model into a secure, automated, developer self-service capability. Position Overview • Job Type: Full-Time • Location: Remote (U.S.) with occasional on-site meetings in the Washington, DC area • Target Salary Range: $130,000 – $150,000 / year (Note: Final offer is subject to candidate experience and expectations) • Position Contingency: Contingent upon contract award (Anticipated award: September 2026; Estimated start date: November 17, 2026) As an API Platform Engineer, you will design, build, and validate automated workflows, developer portal capabilities, and governance-integrated pipelines to automate API registration, access approvals, and configuration provisioning. Key Responsibilities • Self-Service & Portal: Build developer self-service capabilities, including a searchable developer portal with API documentation, specifications, and access request workflows. • Workflow Automation: Design and implement automated API onboarding workflows integrated into enterprise CI/CD pipelines. • IAM & Security: Integrate the portal with enterprise identity management systems (OAuth 2.0 / OIDC) and enforce role-based access control (RBAC). • Governance Gates: Implement automated validation gates for OpenAPI/Swagger specification quality, governance compliance, security controls, and Section 508 accessibility. • Configuration-as-Code: Develop reusable pipeline components and configuration-as-code for gateway onboarding and migration lanes. Qualifications & Requirements • Experience: • At least 6 years of software development or platform automation experience. • At least 3 years building API lifecycle, gateway, or developer platform automation in enterprise environments. • Technical Expertise: • CI/CD toolchains (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and configuration-as-code/IaC. • OpenAPI/Swagger tooling, linting, and automated governance validation. • Scripting in Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go. • Developer portal platforms and IAM integration (OAuth 2.0/OIDC). • Clearance & Security: • Must possess U.S. work authorization. • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Moderate Risk Public Trust (MBI level) background investigation.
