Full Description

About the position Responsibilities • Develops methodologies and determines the most effective process to address a given provider data request, construct a performance measure, or monitor various trends. • Compiles and manipulates data using SQL, SAS, or other languages from a variety of source formats, to support complex analyses. • Cleans and prepares data to produce datasets required for data visualization software products. • Designs, develops, and maintains visualizations and/or web apps. • Designs, prepares and reviews a variety of written, oral and graphical reports, applications, or deliverables containing provider and related data. • Oversees the interpretation of analysis results to inform the team's presentations and reports of the results involving Medicaid and CHIP provider and related data. • Engages with a variety of people across the agency to build strong relationships and to find creative solutions to leveraging Medicaid and CHIP provider and related data. • Utilizes communication skills to gather the information necessary from customers to assess and address their needs. • Explains analysis results in clear and non-scientific language as necessary to ensure that customers can leverage the information in decision-making. • Provides suggestions regarding systematic changes that will improve the efficiency and quality of Medicaid CHIP provider and related data. • Assesses data quality by identifying any missing, erroneous, incongruent, or duplicate provider data. • Coordinates with other internal groups within the Office of Data Analytics and Performance or other areas to identify issues, address data quality, and improve provider reporting. Requirements • Bachelor's degree, equivalent, or higher degree in epidemiology, statistics, public health, data science, social or natural sciences, or other discipline which requires data management and analysis skills. • Four years' experience with data acquisition, data collection, management, analyses, visualization and presentation of health and human services-related data and/or large datasets. • Four years' experience in writing queries and using statistical software (e.g. SAS or SPSS). • Employment application will illustrate effective and accurate written communication skills. Nice-to-haves • Knowledge of data analysis techniques and best practices. • Knowledge of data quality and integrity processes. • Knowledge of the Medicaid and CHIP program and related social services. • Knowledge of ArcGIS. • Knowledge of Snowflake. • Knowledge of and experience with reporting and visualization tools, including Tableau. • Skill in complex analytic work, identifying trends, concerns, recommending opportunities for improvement as well as areas of excellence. • Skill in using SAS, SQL, and other query languages. • Skill in communicating to both technical and non-technical audiences. • Ability to work on a team, and to be flexible and creative with data demands. • Ability to plan, organize and conduct data analytic projects. • Ability to develop and interpret data charts, maps, and tables. • Ability to interpret and report on data analytic findings. • Ability to exercise independent judgment and show initiative.
