Job Title: Technical Writer Job ID: 77891 Location: Glendale, California Overview: Our client is looking for an experienced Technical Writer to join their data team, skilled in translating complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and engaging documentation. In this role, you will collaborate closely with data engineers, data product teams, system reliability engineers, and software developers to create and maintain high-quality documentation that supports our data platform's success. You will play a key role in developing both engineering-focused content covering policies, best practices, and procedures, and user-centered materials that enhance usability, drive user adoption, and support our team's growth in delivering data products and solutions. You will help them to organize and purge documentation in a methodical and efficient manner leveraging tools such as Confluence and other doc repository solutions. What you will be doing: Develop comprehensive documentation that adheres to organizational standards, ensuring clarity and accuracy for a wide range of users. Gain a deep understanding of data products, services, and technical infrastructure, translating complex information into accessible, user-friendly content. Create engaging content that meets the needs of both technical and non-technical audiences, enabling user success through clear guidance. Build and maintain a detailed repository of reference materials, including research notes, usability studies, and design specifications. Assess current content for quality and effectiveness, proposing and implementing innovative methods for continuous improvement. What you must have: Collaborate with data engineers, software developers, product managers, and UX teams to gather information and understand project requirements. Research, outline, write, and edit various types of documentation, such as procedure manuals, API developer guides, configuration guides, in-platform instructions, and integration guides for team members, partner teams and end usersDevelop and maintain information architecture templates that support easy updates and data migration, adhering to organizational and legal standards. Evaluate, organize, and update existing documentation repositories, working with development leads to establish best practices for content management and storage. Create alternate formats (e.g., video demos, guided tours) for documentation to maximize usability and engagement. Incorporate feedback from user studies and team insights to refine content, ensuring a consistent voice across all documentation. Provide editing support, ensuring fluency and accuracy in all training and technical content, and offering constructive feedback to maintain quality. What you must have: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Communications, Journalism, or a relevant technical field. Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience, with a proven ability to learn and communicate complex subject matter effectively. Strong written communication skills and an excellent eye for detail. Experience collaborating with engineering teams to enhance user experience through content and visual aids. Proficiency in content management systems, XML, or other documentation tools, as well as experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing tasks. Working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and experience creating technical documentation for different audience levels, from end-users to system administrators. Ability to tailor documentation based on the audience Nice to have: Previous experience in data, software development, or a related technical field. Professional certification, such as from the Society for Technical Communication. Familiarity with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Intercom, Confluence, JIRA, Git & GitHub, Wiki, CMS or similar tools. Experience in creating client aids, such as online demos, video guides, and interactive tooltips.
