Position Objective The Underwriter, Personal Lines - Team Lead, is responsible for managing and guiding a team of personal lines underwriters to ensure high-quality risk assessment, adherence to underwriting standards, and profitability within the personal lines’ portfolio. This role involves serving as a subject matter expert in underwriting, fostering agent relationships, and driving operational efficiencies to achieve organizational goals. Position Summary Supervise, mentor, and coach a team of personal lines underwriters and customer service representatives to promote professional growth and high performance. Assign workloads, manage team priorities, and ensure consistent application of underwritten policies and guidelines. Assist with creating standard operating procedures and reinforcing the rollouts Be a team mentor creating positive work relationships and be a change champion Assist supervisor with grading call monitoring reports and audits for team members. assist supervisor with side-by-side observations, conducting root cause analysis and aid questions Reviews applications for all personal lines coverage and other information to determine if application is acceptable for the program(s) available. Assists agents with contents of applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company and underwrites applications from appointed agents including pricing and quoting. Analyzes and researches underwriting issues and guidelines as it relates to complex premium bearing endorsements, new business eligibility, cancellations and/or inspections with accuracy and efficiency. Provide guidance on escalated cases and assist team members with complex underwriting decisions. Build and maintain strong relationships with agents and brokers to enhance collaboration and profit growth. Serve as a point of contact for agent inquiries, providing technical expertise and innovative underwriting solutions. Education Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field preferred Advanced certifications such as CPCU, AU, or ARM are strongly preferred Work Experience Minimum of 5+ years of experience in personal lines underwriting, with at least 2 years preferred in a Sr. Underwriting role. Proven track record of underwriting complex personal insurance risks and managing client relationships. Experience in overseeing a diverse team and collaborating with multiple stakeholders in the insurance industry. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities Advanced knowledge of personal lines insurance products, underwritten guidelines, industry trends along with general knowledge of insurance statutes and regulations. Strong leadership and decision-making skills to balance team and organizational priorities effectively. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with team members, agents, and brokers. Proficiency in underwriting tools, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
