TaxAct is a leading digital tax filing platform which offers customers do-it-yourself digital and downloadable products that are easy-to-use, best-in-class technology, and provide unparalleled customer support. We are a trusted solution for all users including those with complex tax returns. We strive to attract and retain candidates who exemplify our values: performance, perseverance, progress and partnership. TaxAct is a member of the Taxwell family of products. We are an organization of forward thinkers looking to add industry experts to our growing team. This role will primarily support TaxAct as the organization helps everyday Americans file their taxes. You’ll design and deliver features, troubleshoot difficult issues, refactor existing applications, and contribute to technical design and delivery decisions. The work spans several technologies, with the current mix approximately 40% .NET, 30% Vue, 20% C++, and 10% Angular. We value engineers who think critically, ask good questions, and take pride in building high-quality software. AI-assisted development is a growing part of our workflow, and you’ll be expected to use tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools to increase velocity while maintaining high standards Responsibilities Design, implement, and test frontend and backend features across our tax filing systems Debug and resolve application issues, improving performance and reliability Participate in design and code reviews, offering and receiving constructive feedback Collaborate with product, design, and QA to scope and deliver reliable features on time Write testable, production-quality code, leveraging AI tools when appropriate to accelerate development, explore options, or improve documentation Contribute to maintainability not just in your own work, but in how the system fits together overall Build a deep understanding of the tax filing domain, system architecture, and codebase in order to contribute thoughtfully, challenge assumptions, propose improvements, and grow your design instincts over time Qualifications 5+ years of professional software engineering experience Strong experience developing applications with .NET Experience with Vue and/or Angular Exposure to C++ is helpful but not required. This role includes maintenance of existing C++ applications, so candidates should be comfortable learning and working with C++ as needed Familiarity with Microsoft development tools and workflows such as Visual Studio, SQL Server, and Azure DevOps Experience building, debugging, and maintaining production systems Ability to independently break down complex problems, evaluate solutions, and drive work through completion Experience contributing to technical design discussions and code reviews Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools, and a willingness to continue developing that skill Bonus Skills Experience with AWS (preferred), or other cloud platforms such as Azure or GCP Experience working in Agile or Scrum-based teams Experience in highly regulated domains such as tax, fintech, or healthcare At Taxwell, we believe our work benefits from the diverse perspectives of our employees.
