The pay range is $85,000.00 - $154,000.00 Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position. A role with the Design team is an opportunity to build what doesn’t yet exist. Designers at Target operate at the intersection of creativity, strategy, and business impact—shaping products that are original, relevant, and market-leading in design and quality for the price. Our Design team owns the creative vision and development of all Target-owned brands, from apparel to home, beauty, and essentials. In close partnership with Merchandising, Brand, and Sourcing, Designers drive brand cohesion and continuity—ensuring product aligns to line plans, assortment strategies, price architecture, and long-term creative direction. The Role As a Product Designer, Home Decor (L5) based in our New York City office, you will design elevated Target-Owned Brand home décor collections with a focus on Decorative Accessories and Wall Decor. This is a high-expectation L5 role, operating with near-senior designer capability: high autonomy, strong design authority, and strategic influence across projects, while remaining a hands-on product designer. You will be trusted to independently drive design vision, translate brand strategy into product reality, and lead creative execution across the full development lifecycle—from concept to commercialization. Guided by Design Leadership and working in close partnership with Brand, Concept, Merchants, Technical Design, and Sourcing, you will shape collections that are both creatively distinctive and commercially successful. This role requires a designer who not only executes at a high craft level, but also thinks systemically—understanding brand architecture, assortment strategy, margin, and scalability—while delivering beautiful, original, and market-relevant product. What you’ll do • Lead design vision for home décor categories, driving concept, materiality, form language, and aesthetic direction • Translate trend, consumer insight, and brand strategy into commercially viable product systems • Independently manage projects from concept through production with minimal oversight • Drive creative direction through research, market analysis, user needs identification, and opportunity mapping • Develop cohesive collections across categories, not just individual SKUs • Select and specify materials, color, finishes, artwork, and construction methods • Use CAD, 2D/3D modeling, AI tools, hand sketching, and rendering to translate concepts into production-ready design • Create and present high-level visual boards and design narratives that align stakeholders and partners • Partner cross-functionally with Technical Design/Engineering, Merchants, Brand, and Sourcing to solve complexity and elevate outcomes • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product, material, and manufacturing challenges • Influence creative standards and elevate quality benchmarks across the category • Maintain strong ownership of timelines, workflows, and design process About you • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Fine Art, or related field, or equivalent experience • 4–7+ years of relevant product design and development experience (high-performing L5 range) • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) • Strong sketching skills with experience in CAD illustration and 2D/3D rendering tools • Working knowledge and curiosity around AI-enabled design tools • Deep understanding of soft and hard materials, manufacturing processes, and finishes • Strong design taste level with a refined point of view • Strategic, business-minded thinker with strong commercial awareness • Proven ability to assimilate feedback and iterate without losing creative integrity • High autonomy, self-direction, and ownership mindset • Highly collaborative with the ability to lead creatively without formal authority • Strong trend fluency, design literacy, and knowledge of design history and interiors • Ability to deliver original, elevated, and cost-effective design solutions aligned to business objective Team Members in the Target General Merch Inc operating company are prohibited from working more than thirty (30) days per calendar year in any of the following states: AL, AR, DE, FL, IN, IA, LA, MD, MS, MO, NC, OK, PA, SC, TN and VA.
