TITLE: Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: • A valid teacher certificate in the field of assignment. • Additional certification requirements as set by the Maryland State Department of Education or Talbot County Board of Education. • Such alternates and additions to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. To provide students with skills and knowledge commensurate with their ability and to provide all students with the opportunity to successfully obtain a valid high school diploma based upon criteria established by the local and state boards of education. ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location(s) and at the times designated. • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence (lesson plans) of preparation upon request of principal, principal's designee, or curriculum coordinator. • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. • Strives to implement by instruction and action the board's philosophy of education. • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, board policy, and administrative regulation. • Is knowledgeable of and enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so. • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students. • Effectively utilizes the instructional process to guide the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals; and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, & projects. • Assesses the accomplishments of students using formative and summative assessments. • Provides student progress reports as required. • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required. • Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. • Accepts a share of responsibility for non-instructional duties as assigned. • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with all students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others. • Provides for his/her own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning. • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. • Have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a personal computer, calculator, copier, and other technology tools. • Have the ability to move around the classroom including stooping, bending, standing for extended periods and moving heavy objects. Crisis intervention may require participating in physical restraints. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Exempt position. Ten month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board via professional negotiations.
