As a Senior Program Manager, Transportation Safety & Compliance, you will play a critical leadership role ensuring that safety and compliance are foundational to every mile we drive and every decision we make. This role leads a team of transportation compliance analysts and collaborates across Sysco’s transportation operations to proactively identify regulatory risk, implement preventive strategies, and continuously enhance our safety culture. You will partner cross-functionally—with Legal, Public Policy, and Operations—to ensure that Sysco’s transportation activities meet or exceed DOT, FMCSA, PHMSA, FDA, and EPA standards, keeping our fleet safe and our people protected. Position involves up to 25% travel. Primary Responsibilities Champion Sysco’s commitment to safety by ensuring transportation compliance is understood across the enterprise and represented with integrity to industry associations and regulatory stakeholders. Serve as a strategic partner to Legal, Public Relations, and Public Policy teams—providing subject matter expertise on federal and state transportation regulations and anticipating changes that may impact our operations. Analyze transportation safety data to detect trends, mitigate emerging risks, and recommend safety enhancements that uphold our commitment to protecting our colleagues and customers. Lead the development and lifecycle management of transportation safety policies—ensuring they reflect Sysco’s high standards and evolve with operational needs and regulatory updates. Deliver clear, actionable communications to stakeholders, providing transparency on risks, trends, and mitigation strategies. Proactively identify safety and compliance challenges, especially those “around the corner,” and develop forward-thinking plans to address them before they impact the business. Mentor and lead a team of professionals in risk assessment, policy development, and training—empowering them to drive continuous improvement in Sysco’s safety and compliance performance. Conduct recurring audits of transportation safety and compliance processes, both over-the-road and in-yard, and lead corrective action plans to close gaps and reduce exposure. Monitor key safety metrics weekly and monthly, ensuring data drives resource allocation and risk reduction strategies. Promote continuous improvement using Lean principles and safety-first thinking. Basic Qualifications 5+ years of increasing responsibility in transportation safety, compliance, or environmental programs in logistics, manufacturing, or service operations. Expertise in DOT/FMCSA regulations with 5+ years as a compliance SME. Experience designing and delivering driver training programs and managing fleet safety performance. Strong communication skills—able to influence across all levels of the organization. Associate degree in safety, logistics, transportation, or equivalent experience (4+ years). Proven experience with safety audits and corrective action implementation. Preferred Qualifications Leadership experience in transportation safety programs, fleet operations, and driver development. Familiarity with safety technologies—telematics, automation, and incident management tools. Experience in foodservice, distribution, or manufacturing environments. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in safety, logistics, or related field. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or PMP certification preferred. Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, pivot tables, and data visualization. Systems-thinking mindset with a proven ability to develop scalable safety programs that align with business growth.
