Summary: SCWA is currently seeking an Assistant Mechanical Engineer to work alongside the Lead Mechanical Engineer to design, specify and prepare contracts for the installation of a variety of pumping systems associated with the public water supply. These systems include deep well turbine pumps, submersible pumps, centrifugal booster pumps, emergency generators, water filtration systems and related equipment. The position will also assist in performing field work including investigation of anomalies and failures of equipment along with oversight of in-house forces and outside contractors performing work on the Authority’s large fleet of mechanical systems. The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm with Sat/Sun off. Job ID/Number: Posted Date: 2/27/2026 Job Location: Position Type: Full Time Division: Engineering Department Description: Responsibilities include: • Design of deep well turbine and booster pumps along with related equipment for new wells, capacity upgrades, performance upgrades and repair. • Coordination and supervision of contractors along with overseeing, observing and documenting equipment installation, repair, upgrade, modification, and replacement. • Performance testing, troubleshooting and evaluation of equipment problems. • Preparation of contracts along with other documents for purchase, repair and installation of pump and related equipment; Update equipment databases as needed. • Evaluation of existing and potential alternative equipment/systems for compatibility, operability, feasibility and cost. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required. • 2-3 years’ experience in mechanical engineering with preference for water pumping/hydraulic systems. • Working knowledge of hydraulic principles and processes along with a clear understanding of construction/installation practices. • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD along with excellent communication and verbal skills necessary. • The Authority may accept an equivalent combination of education and experience to meet the requirements* Interested candidates should submit their application and resume via the SCWA website (www.scwa.com) and click on “Career Opportunities.” Annual salary is commensurate with education and experience within a range of $70-75k.
