Bachelor's in Software Engineering or related field, 8+ years experience including 2+ in medical device or regulated industry, advanced controls software and embedded systems proficiency.
We are looking for a Principal Controls Engineer to support Digital, Robotics, and Enabling Technology Concept Development. This role will lead technical deliverables for research & design of controls modules and subsystems. You will apply advanced controls design principles to develop concepts, proving their feasibility, and translating user needs into design specifications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful concept transitions to New Product Development teams while navigating intellectual property landscapes. Additionally, you will strategize customer-facing activities, support business reviews, and ensure compliance with medical device standards. By partnering with internal and external stakeholders, you will drive technical strategies that meet clinical needs and enhance the company's performance through innovative solutions. What you will do: • Lead technical deliverables for research, design, development, modification and evaluation of modules, assemblies, or subsystems often integrating with various SW, HW, and complex system elements. • Apply advanced controls software design principles to develop concepts and deploy on hardware. • Design specifications into lower level detailed design while establishing methods to prove concept feasibility. • Consider cross-functional needs to ensure successful transition of concepts from feasibility to New Product Development process. • Assess new technologies and capabilities (prototyping, testing, et.al.) to solve novel challenges. • Develop and influence invention disclosures and patents while navigating the intellectual landscape. • Write firmware and drivers to control motors, sensors, and communications buses. • Collaboratively lead strategies for static/dynamic analysis and integrated development environments (IDE) structures for projects. What you need: Minimum Qualifications (Required): • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics or related discipline. • 8+ years of experience • 2+ years experience in medical device or highly regulated industry Preferred Qualifications: • Advanced understanding of controls software design principles. • Advanced understanding of complex electromechanical systems to guide design direction. • Proficiency in designing, developing, coding, testing, debugging and maintenance of embedded software. • Diverse proficiency for Controls and Embedded Software including MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++, embedded C, and/or others. • Ability to prototype and bench test designs
