The job involves developing glyco-engineered platforms, protein purification and analysis, and maintaining scientific documentation in a synthetic biology startup.
Requires advanced degrees and extensive experience in glyco-engineering, molecular biology techniques, protein purification, and analytical assays.
• *This position is based out of New York, NY. Relocation assistance is available.** About Neion Bio: Neion Bio is harnessing nature’s best protein factory to bring about a world of healthy abundance. Through genetic engineering, we’re creating “living bioreactors”, which act as fully autonomous 3D biomolecular printers, using existing industrial-scale infrastructure. Our platform can rapidly and scalably produce almost any protein, provide national resilience to drug shortages and de-risk complex supply chains, and ultimately take advantage of novel biological environments to solve unmet medical needs. Role Summary: We are looking for a talented scientist with expertise in glyco-engineering, glycobiology, protein analytics and protein purification to support our ambitious synthetic biology projects. We will be glyco-engineering mammalian and avian cells, and create glyco-engineered transgenic animals. You will work with a talented group of engineers and biologists committed to developing disruptive, novel protein production technologies. Key Responsibilities: Glyco-engineered platform development: • Develop rapid glyco-analysis assays • Develop and execute a glyco-engineering strategy that enables specific desired glycoprofiles in cell lines and transgenic animals • Characterize purified proteins using a range of analytical techniques (e.g., SDS-PAGE, HPLC, mass spectrometry) • Develop and execute binding and potency assays for monoclonal antibodies Scientific housekeeping: • Analyze data, generate figures, report results • Present findings at R&D meetings • Maintain a thorough and detailed electronic lab notebook • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment Required Qualifications: • PhD/MS in synthetic biology, bioengineering, glycobiology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field • 3+ years hands-on expertise in glyco-engineering and glyco-analysis • Understanding and hands-on experience with current precision editing techniques, covering the design, optimization and verification of genome edits • Experience with avian or mammalian cell culture, DNA/RNA transfection, bacterial culture, recombinant DNA cloning techniques, primer design and PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction and purification • Proficiency in modern protein purification techniques, including chromatography (affinity, ion exchange, size exclusion), ultrafiltration, and protein analytics. • Hands-on experience with protein characterization tools (e.g., SDS-PAGE, Western blot, spectrophotometry, HPLC) • Experience interpreting results from assays such LC-MS, CD, FTIR, UV, SPR, and other therapeutic analytical characterization assays. • Self-motivated, proactive, works well under pressure and deadlines, detail-oriented • Enthusiasm for learning new skills and taking on new responsibilities • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills • Strong emotional intelligence and passion for building relationships across all levels of an organization. • Enjoys the fast-paced startup environment and teamwork Preferred Qualifications: • Experience with flow cytometry, immunostaining, and fluorescent microscopy • Familiarity with multiple recombinant protein expression systems (e.g., mammalian, microbial, avian) • Knowledge of regulatory considerations for therapeutic protein production. Why Neion Bio? We are on a mission to reimagine the way in which complex biological molecules are produced to transform human health and upend multiple billion dollar markets. At Neion Bio you will play a pivotal role in an early-stage, fast-growing company, working alongside leading scientists and entrepreneurs. You will have the opportunity to participate in the enormous potential upside while having a huge impact on the world. We’re building a future of healthy abundance, one living bioreactor at a time. To do so, we’re bringing together some of the best talent in the world – including you. We’re very serious about what we do, but also serious about work-life balance, being decent people, and loving being at work. Compensation: base salary is expected to be $110-150k depending on experience, with additional bonus compensation, equity compensation, and benefits.
