The job opportunity The One Washington Communications team is seeking a dynamic Communications Specialist to support statewide transformation by leading the creation of communication resources across all workstreams. In this role you'll play a critical part in ensuring timely, clear, and accurate information sharing between the project team and state agencies impacted by the implementation of Workday, a modern enterprise system. As the Communications Specialist will collaborate closely with internal experts from Agency Readiness, Functional, Technology, and Project Management teams to gain a deep understanding of program operations and Workday functionality. You will translate complex technical and project-related subject matter into clear and accessible communications tailored to diverse audiences. The communication will support both outbound (project-to-agency) and inbound (agency-to-project) messaging, ensuring stakeholders are informed and aligned. Your objective in this position is to enable effective communication that supports the successful implementation of Workday on time, within scope, and within budget. • This position is eligible to frequently telework the majority of the time and is typically not required to report on-site. If required on-site, then your supervisor will do their best to make every effort to notify you at least 1 week in advance, with the exception of emergency/urgent situations. The default assigned work location of all One Washington project positions – both on-site and telework eligible positions – is within the State of Washington, *specifically at one of our two duty stations based in Olympia. One Washington (OneWA), led by the Office of Financial Management, is an enterprise-wide transformation project focused on replacing 1960s-era technology with a cloud-based solution for finance, procurement, budget, HR, and payroll processes, utilizing Workday technology. OneWA is a long-term, yet extremely fast-paced project anticipated to fully implement all phases by 2030. The project’s core business hours are Monday through Friday, all project positions are full-time, and we offer some flexibility in schedules oriented around core business hours with prior supervisory approval. However, it is very common to regularly work beyond the typical 40-hour work week to meet the rigorous operational needs and business deliverables required for the go-live timelines. What you'll work on • Prepare, edit and distribute written, visual and verbal project communication products tied to milestones in the project schedule • Monitor both the project schedule and integrated program schedule (IPS) and coordinate with the Communications Manager to report on communication project metrics • Monitor frequently asked questions (FAQs) and themes for agency engagement in partnership with the Agency Readiness workstream leads and updates agency resources accordingly • Offer proposed communication strategy or campaign updates to the Communications Manager based upon FAQs and themes • Complete project communication product requests as assigned by the One Washington Communications Manager • Partner with IT and finance subject matter experts to ensure clear and concise communication is provided to various audiences regarding the Workday implementation • Write and edit newsletter articles for the One Washington newsletter and website paying special attention to plain-speaking technical and financial jargon for a diverse audience • Monitor and update project workstream information on the public-facing One Washington website • Prepare, edit and distribute recurring project communications including weekly email updates to state agency partners • Prepare and edit internal communication resources utilizing the existing branding and style guides for distribution by the Communications Manager and/or • Communications Director including, but not limited to: • Program templates for visual meeting aids • Program templates for written reports • Program templates for standard email language • Talking points • Weekly leadership message • Website update requests • Provides Outlook assistance, training and oversight for the general One Washington Outlook account and individual workstream shared accounts What we need you to bring Required Qualifications • Professional work experience in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, or closely allied field • Communication and Public Relations Expertise • Excellent organizational, writing (especially for web content), verbal and presentation skills. • Expertise in public relations and building relationships. • Ability to develop and implement communications strategies and evaluate their effectiveness. • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people. • Excellent organizational, writing (especially for web content), verbal and presentation skills. • Expertise in public relations and building relationships. • Ability to develop and implement communications strategies and evaluate their effectiveness. • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of people. • Strong analytical skills: ability to look at all aspects of a situation and determine the appropriate message to be communicated. • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to quickly produce written materials that are clear, concise, inviting to read and effective in communicating the desired message. • Presentation and public speaking abilities. Desired Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration, public relations, English, journalism, communications, marketing or related • Four (4) years of professional experience in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations, or closely allied field • Any professional communications certifications (such as Accredited Business Communicator (ABC), Strategic Communication • Management Professional (SCMP), and Communication Management Professional (CMP) etc.) • Understanding of the functioning of state government, the legislative system and individual state agencies • Experience with the political/legislative process; experience may include researching and providing information for testimony before legislative or other government committee • Knowledge of quality improvement tools and processes • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite What we offer At OFM, we foster a culture of integrity, innovation, inclusion, and belonging.
