JOB This position is part of the Secretary of State’s IT Division, located in either the Carson City or Las Vegas office. It serves as a senior technical lead within the Systems Administration team and is responsible for enterprise-level infrastructure design, implementation, and optimization. The role encompasses advanced systems architecture, administration, and operational oversight for mission-critical environments. The position requires deep expertise across multiple technology domains, including server infrastructure (Windows/Linux), virtualization, storage systems, and network architecture. The incumbent will design and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery solutions, develop long-range infrastructure roadmaps, and ensure compliance with State IT regulations and agency continuity requirements. Responsibilities include evaluating emerging technologies, implementing automated maintenance workflows, and leading complex deployments and migrations with zero-impact transitions. Beyond internal infrastructure management, the role demands proficiency in advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis using tools such as SIEM, Wireshark, and forensic utilities. As a technical lead, this position will oversee statewide infrastructure projects, conduct cost/benefit analyses, and coordinate with vendors and cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery and compliance. Strong documentation and knowledge management skills are essential, including authoring architecture diagrams, SOPs, and recovery playbooks. The ideal candidate should demonstrate expertise in systems architecture, network design, operational security, and performance management. A Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification is required to apply for this role and must be maintained throughout employment. Additional nationally recognized certifications in cloud or virtualization technologies are highly desirable. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and six years of progressively responsible professional IT experience, three years of which were at the advanced journey level in a pertinent specialty area such as information systems project management, quality assurance, systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, or information security; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
