You would design and build low-latency trading infrastructure, including exchange gateways, market-data systems, and order-management components, while collaborating with traders and researchers and managing cloud infrastructure.
You need 5–10 years of trading-systems development experience, deep modern C++ and Python expertise, end-to-end system-design ownership, and knowledge of market microstructure and trading-desk workflows.
Statar Capital is an investment management firm focused on global futures markets, with an emphasis on natural gas. Our technology team directly supports trading, research, and operations in a real-time, high-performance environment. We build and operate systems that directly impact PnL. Reliability, speed, and ownership are critical. The Role We are looking for a hands-on Senior Software Engineer, preferably based in Miami, FL. This is a senior builder role at the center of our trading stack. You will design and build the systems that connect our traders and researchers to the markets, from low-level exchange and broker gateways to the cloud infrastructure and orchestration everything runs on. On any given day you might be writing performance-critical C++ for a trading gateway, and the next you might be deploying and orchestrating infrastructure in AWS. You will own systems end-to-end, from design through production. This role is ideal for someone who understands trading systems at a deep level, has worked closely with a trading desk, and prefers building complete systems over working on one narrow component. A successful candidate for this role: Is a builder who is comfortable across the full stack, from low-level code to infrastructure Has designed and built complete trading systems end-to-end Understands how systems work under the hood, not just at the framework or API level Has worked closely with a trading desk and knows the markets and securities involved Takes ownership from design through production This is not a role for a narrow specialist. Key Responsibilities Design and build low-latency trading infrastructure in modern C++, including exchange and broker gateways. Build and maintain market data systems, including exchange feed handlers, order book construction, instrument definitions and amendments, and replay and backfill. Build order management and execution components covering the order lifecycle, pre-trade risk checks, and the flow from fills to positions to PnL. Implement and operate FIX connectivity with brokers and exchanges, including session and sequence recovery and drop copy. Build production Python services and the messaging layer that connects them, using Kafka, Redis, and binary serialization formats. Design, optimize, and migrate databases that support trading and research workloads. Deploy and own cloud infrastructure on AWS using Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, including orchestration of production workloads. Design and build AI-based infrastructure, including async agents. Work directly with traders and researchers to turn desk requirements into production systems. Document system architecture and operating procedures. Qualifications Required: 5-10 years of experience building trading systems at a proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, or market maker Experience designing and building complete systems end-to-end, with a deep understanding of how they work at a low level Close work with a trading desk and strong knowledge of the markets and securities traded Modern C++ (17/20), including lock-free queues, memory layout, mmap and shared memory, profiling, sanitizers, and CMake Strong production Python, including services, async programming, typing, and testing Market data experience: exchange feeds (MBO/MBP, L2/L3 books), symbology, instrument definitions and amendments, and replay and backfill Order flow experience: OMS/EMS concepts, the order lifecycle, pre-trade risk checks, and the flow from fills to positions to PnL FIX protocol: sessions, sequence and resend recovery, broker dialects, and drop copy Messaging: Kafka and/or Redis pub/sub, and binary serialization (FlatBuffers, SBE, protobuf) SQL and Postgres, including schema design and migrations Ability to own infrastructure independently at an operator level: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, and AWS Experience designing and building AI-based infrastructure, including async agents Additional: Commodity and rates futures and options (energy, ags; ICE, CME, EEX) Vendor integrations such as Databento, Bloomberg (BPIPE, EMSX, blpapi), ICE, and Platts CSP or a similar streaming graph framework Arrow, Parquet, DuckDB, and columnar or time-series stores (QuestDB, kdb) Ray or other distributed compute frameworks; Airflow Backtest or exchange-simulator design with realistic fill models ArgoCD/GitOps, Prometheus, and Grafana Preference for on-site in Miami, FL; remote work considered. To apply, submit a CV and cover letter by November 15.
