Provide targeted math interventions to at-risk students through assessment, instruction, progress monitoring, and collaboration with teachers and parents.
Bachelor's degree, valid Texas teaching certificate with endorsements, minimum 3-4 years math teaching experience, knowledge of math interventions, and strong organizational and communication skills.
Primary Purpose: Provide a systematic, and appropriately intensive assistance to children who are at risk or already underperforming as compared to appropriate grade- or age-level standards. The Math Interventionist intervenes with a group of students who have identified gaps in Math with the goal of closing that gap by providing direct instruction intervention, small-group instruction, frequent progress monitoring, and increasingly intensive research-based instruction and interventions for students who continue to have difficulty. Qualifications: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from accredited university, Masters preferred math specialization preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned A minimum of four years of experience teaching math preferred Knowledge of math intervention strategies Ability to administer and interpret diagnostic math assessment instruments Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Physically able to monitor student discipline and progress and meet other student needs as required Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction Experience: A minimum of 3 years teaching experience teaching high school students in the area of math. Demonstrated experience implementing intensive math intervention to high school students. Demonstrated experience working independently and with teams to collect data. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted. Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Provide math intervention to at-risk students “most” at risk of failing to attain grade level expectations 2. Administer diagnostic math instruments to students most at risk of math failure 3. Interpret diagnostic math instruments to determine specific instructional needs of at-risk students 4. Develop instructional plans to meet the individualized needs of identified students 5. Monitor math progress of identified students 6. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process 7. Assist classroom teachers in analyzing math assessments and in designing and delivering math interventions 8. Participate in collaborative committees to make instructional and placement decision for struggling students 9. Provide parent training on how to support children’s math literacy development in the home 10. Attend on-going staff development in the areas of math intervention 11. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required 12. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of at-risk students 13. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs. 14. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect at-risk students, equipment, materials, and facilities 15. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members. 16. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly 17. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible 18. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers 19. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required 20. Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission 21. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement Other 22.
