Role Overview: As the Senior Lead Developer - Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). Your expertise will ensure the system's reliability and effectiveness in monitoring and managing disease data across the state. What You'll Do: - You will provide ongoing maintenance and support for the MDSS, ensuring system stability and performance. - You will lead the development and implementation of new features and improvements. - You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions. - You will troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues promptly. - You will mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance. - You will ensure data integrity and security within the surveillance system. - You will participate in code reviews and enforce best practices. - You will contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing within the team. What You Bring: - You have at least 7 years of experience in data engineering or software development. - You possess strong skills in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala. - You have experience with data pipeline tools and technologies like Apache Kafka, Spark, or Hadoop. - You are proficient in SQL and database management. - You have a solid understanding of public health data systems or similar domains. - You demonstrate excellent problem-solving and leadership abilities. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with disease surveillance or healthcare data systems. - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. - Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes. - Certifications in data engineering or cloud technologies.
