Role Overview: As the Senior Lead Developer - Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). Your expertise will ensure the system's reliability and effectiveness in monitoring and managing disease data across the state. What You'll Do: - You will provide ongoing maintenance and support for the MDSS, ensuring system stability and performance. - You will lead the development and implementation of new features and improvements to the surveillance system. - You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data sources and optimize data workflows. - You will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize system downtime. - You will mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance to the team. - You will ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations in all development activities. - You will document system changes and maintain comprehensive technical documentation. - You will participate in strategic planning to align system capabilities with public health goals. What You Bring: - Minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering or software development. - Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala. - Extensive experience with data integration, ETL processes, and database management. - Proven ability to lead development teams and manage complex projects. - In-depth knowledge of public health data systems or disease surveillance is highly desirable. - Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience working with the Michigan Disease Surveillance System or similar public health platforms. - Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure. - Knowledge of data security standards and compliance requirements. - Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams.
