Role Overview: As the Senior Lead Developer - Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). Your expertise will ensure the system's reliability and effectiveness in monitoring and managing disease data across the state. What You'll Do: - You will provide ongoing maintenance and support for the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). - You will lead the development and implementation of data engineering solutions to improve system performance. - You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new features and ensure data accuracy. - You will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize system downtime. - You will mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance to the team. - You will ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations. - You will document system changes and maintain comprehensive technical documentation. - You will participate in strategic planning to align system capabilities with public health goals. What You Bring: - Minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering or software development. - Strong proficiency in data management systems and programming languages such as Python, SQL, and Java. - Experience with public health data systems or similar large-scale data platforms. - Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. - Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities. - Ability to work onsite in Mid-Michigan; local candidates only. Bonus Points If You Have: - Experience with disease surveillance or epidemiological data systems. - Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. - Familiarity with data security standards and compliance requirements. - Prior experience mentoring or leading development teams.
